You mean "Bill Clinton's" NAFTA... oh yeah, that too. Now they're building Chevy SIlverados in Mexico. They're now called the Chevy Silverodriguez. You can thank Bill Clinton for a lot of that. Bill Clinton has quite a legacy - Monica and NAFTA.

Now you get it, it's not a left vs right thing.. free trade has decimated this country not minimum wage, or unions..
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71509577

It IS a left right thing - look at ANY area that's been run by liberals and you'll find a shit hole. Then, look at a place like Salt Lake City. They have a REAL 4% unemployment rate and a thriving economy. Real estate is booming. Then, look at Detroit, south Chicongo, Baltimore, and Philly. The results are obvious.

this notion is nonsensical in the extreme. You clearly aren't aware of how many businesses are leaving CA and moving to TX. How many gazillions is the state of CA in the hole for now? More than I can count, that's for sure.

Your the dumbass, without poor people blowing their money every week the economy wouldn't function, wealthy dont eat at McDonald's shop at Walmart or buy shit on amazon giving ups and fedex drivers jobs on the same level as the poor.. you don't get rich by spending your money, and we have a consumer based service economy in the united states. No money, no economy.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71509577

It's "you're" by the way, not "your." Dip shit! The poor don't blow THEIR MONEY. They blow money that was taken from someone else and given to them. That money would have been spent - just by the people who EARNED IT not those who sucked it out of the social welfare system.

You truly are an idiot.

If all you're worth is min wage, then I hope they raise it to $50/hr. Idiots like you need to starve and die off.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72060637

Trust me I don't make minimum wage, I'm a truck driver not a glorious job but pays well and I know a large portion of my companies revenue comes from those minimum wage people who can't control their spending.

The REALITY is that you don't understand the world. You don't understand who YOUR enemy is nor do you understand their methods of attack.

I don't understand the world? LOL let me explain reality to you:

Machines don't whine, bitch, complain and bring their personal problems to work with them.
Machines don't do drugs.
Machines don't complain about working nights, weekends and holidays.
Machines don't require time and a half.
machines don't cheat on sick leave.
Machines don't require 0beymecare or family medical leave.
Machines don't unionize.

NOW THERE'S SOME REALITY FOR YOU. Go visit a local retailer like Home Depot or Wal*Mart. Pay attention to the self-checkout stations where one employee monitors many self checkout stations. NO.......... you don't understand the world.

Yes, machines are very useful, BUT "LAWS" are designed to enslave ALL of us. "LAWS" that allow corporations to move factories and jobs from America DON"T serve the American People. SO......... it should be clear that those "LAWS" are an ATTACK against the American People.

Society was CREATED by the "lawmakers" who serve the "elite" RULING class, SO what we see in society was PLANNED to happen by the ruling class. It's so simple to understand.

People in America speak English because THAT is how society was planned. Plenty of people from around the world came to America, and they learned English. And in the UK, those people speak English differently from Americans.

The RULING class makes ALL of the rules and they hire politicians / judges / police officers to FORCE us to obey said laws.

So........ machines could serve everyone in society if the RULING class wanted that to happen, but instead, the ruling class is destroying people while promoting ROBOTS.

It's ALWAYS "divide and conquer". ALWAYS!!!

NO............. you don't understand the world.

You don't have the first clue why corporations MOVE out of the country, do you???

It's not possible to hire a whiny-ass, useless eater, such as yourself and stay in business. You're not productive enough to make up for how much it costs to employ your useless ass. How many jobs have you ever created??? The answer is obvious - ZERO. You have no ability to do anything other than whine. Government has it's boot on the back of the neck of American business. That's why they're leaving. So, whine away. Jobs are leaving at the same time millions more unskilled laborers are cascading across the border. I hope you bank on the idea that increasing available labor creates even more jobs and higher wages. You need a real education and reality will be just the teacher to give it to you.

Re: UC Berkeley Touts $15 Minimum Wage Law, Then Fires Hundreds Of Workers After It Passes
A week after California Gov. Jerry Brown signed the state’s $15 minimum wage boost into law, UC Berkeley Chancellor Nicholas Dirks sent a memo to employees announcing that 500 jobs were getting cut. The school was already in financial trouble — it ran a $109 million deficit last year and is projecting a deficit of $150 million this year. But number crunchers at the school had to have factored in the higher mandated wages when making their layoff decisions. Those workers might want to have a chat with the folks at UC Berkeley’s Center for Labor Research, who just days before Brown signed the wage-hike bill released a study touting the minimum wage as a boon to low-income household breadwinners.

$15 an hour will equal doing the job of 4 people.

Sad part is when you factor inflation $15 an hour is not much money in the real world. Not if you have a family and a mortgage.

The poor are the ones who keep the economy going, not the rich. we are having so many problems because we've only rewarded the rich in the past that it seems counter intuitive to allow the poor a piece of the pie. However by allowing them a piece and stopping the handouts to the wealthy the economy will improve all around

Yet, you make top dollar teaching that worthless nonsense to the kids of other mindless liberals - so you do quite well as the poor are fired. Pretty cool, huh?

 Quoting: Gelatinous Mass

The problem is that no one defines exactly what a "living wage" is. That is because it is different for each person. Why? Because each person has their own idea and DESIRE for what that "living wage" is.

Each person decides what their DESIRED standard of "living" is and then wants that pay to achieve it. It is different for each person. A middle class person who is making $40,000 a year wants to make twice that to afford the lifestyle that they DESIRE. A CEO demands the bucks to support his lifestyle. It is the same attitude, just a different "living" wage.

These people that demand the minimum wage to be $15.00 an hour WANT the pay that allows them to HAVE the THINGS that they WANT and DESIRE, not necessarily NEED. These who are unskilled, inexperience, uneducated or under educated demand a wage that they have not earned in those areas, the same as those that are now making that very same wage and that worked up to that and earned it.

These same people most likely have the latest and very expensive phone, cable, car with all the expensive wheels, tires, sound systems etc., they eat out most meals, have the nice furniture, electronics, games systems, go out a lot, have expensive tennis shoes/clothes, etc. They have maxed out cc and whine that they don't have a "living" wage to pay their bills when they have the WANTS, DESIRES and ENTITLED attitude above.

They want the business owner (who worked, sacrificed, took/takes all the risk to start and make a successful business that gave them that job and pay that they are not happy with) to pay for their DESIRES for a better lifestyle while not earning that right to do so with experience, education, and skills.

It isn't a "living" wage that they want, it is a better and higher lifestyle that they want with out any of the responsibilities to get one. Basic, frugal expenses for living are not that much and can be accomplished with the current min wage - many do, but they are not the ones who live and desire the things above.

They scrimp and work extra to pay for schooling, training. They eat at home and it isn't fancy. They have no cable, no fancy phones, cars, have thrift store clothes, etc. They live within their means. The others do not want to or desire to live within their means and want others to fund it, no matter the cost to the one paying for it. Scrimping isn't fun and it takes character to do it to get where you desire to be. That's the hard work that people don't want to do.

Most of those demanding the "living" wage do not want to deprive themselves of anything they WANT to get what they want and demand that others pay for them to get it. They see anyone who has a successful business and is paying a minimum wage, is "cheating" them and hoarding all the "wealth" for themselves.

FYI, it is their business that was started with their money, time, and risk - something that these that demand that "living" wage are not willing nor able to do. These business owners started a business to make a living for themselves and in growing it made jobs for others. It is their money, they earned it, they didn't start a business to give unskilled/uneducated/inexperienced workers the lifestyle that they want and now demand.

Do big corps. have big profit, yes. Do they share it with their workers, not much. Do their CEO's make a large profit from it, yes, is it excessive - yes. There is a difference between a large corp. and a small or larger family owned successful business/company. They are structured differently and not "owned" by any one person, and therefore the "risk" is not carried by any one person.

It was the person, not the business owner/corp., who chose to be a single parent with children,

It was the person, not the business owner/corp., who chose to not seek an education because it took time and money (not willing to work while going to school),

It was the person, not the business owner/corp., who chose to take out life long student loans to get a degree where they could not find a job with that degree,

It was the person, not the business owner/corp., who chose to WANT and that FEELS ENTITLED to a higher lifestyle than they have earned, and feels demeaned by having to live with the lifestyle that their choice(s) have given them,

It is the persons CHOICE(s) in these and many more that lead to a persons standard of living and none of them are the responsibility of the business owner/corp. It is not their responsibility to see that they are "relieved" of the negative or unpleasant results of those choices or to "improve" them. But, unfortunately many who demand these things do not see it that way.

Live within your means, if you need help to live frugally, then seek the help that our tax dollars pay. I am not responsible, nor or business owners/corps. for your choices or state in life, nor to improve it. You are solely responsible for your own life and it's circumstances - good, bad or otherwise.

If you have a job, be happy that someone else took the risk and work that provided you with one. You are paid to do a job, don't think it is worth more than it is because you WANT and think you DESERVE more so that you can live above your means.

If you do not like your standard of living, then change it with an education, acquired skills, and experience. Or, start your own business. You are responsible for yourself and no one owes you anything. Most people are willing to help those that have less because they have worked hard for what they have and know how it is. But, most do not want to help those that are not willing to do what they need to do to get where they need to be and just want and demand it all be given to them with no responsibility. And that see that certain jobs are beneath them or that their non existent skills are worth more than they are.

Life is hard even on a good day. Do what you have to do be successful and to live within your means, no matter what those means are.

It doesn't matter who the job was intended for, if that's the case then minimum wage employers need to start weeding out anyone over 18 or with kids. Won't work will it? Nope, cuz this is just another false argument from people who wish to keep the wealthy wealthy and the poor downtrodden. You offer no answers.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71455102

Wtf? "Minimum wage employers need to start weeding out anyone over 18 or with kids." Why would an employer be concerned with such things? They just want a warm body to flip the burgers or run the cash register, preferably a warm body that doesn't call in sick or goof off at work, which is actually counterintuitive to your argument since a bunch of 18 yo with zero responsibility are more likely to call in sick and goof off! Do you even realize how dumb this sounds? To argue that, "minimum wage jobs weren't intended for these people, so even if it's in the best interest of the business (ie profitable) to hire them, they just shouldn't."

And AC DID offer answers: the answers of self-reliance and accountability. How many of the poor grew up in poverty and thought to themselves, "I don't want this future, so I had better buckle down in school, get a scholarship for college and major in something useful or go to trade school for cheap and become a small business owner (plumber, electrician, hairdresser, etc), not get pregnant so as not to saddle myself with supporting bastard kids on 1 salary and govt handouts which creates dependency and slavery, obey the law so I am not accruing legal fees and trying to find employment with a record, not waste money on tattoos, the newest cell phone, or drugs (tying into the criminal record handicap above), work 2 jobs if I have to, etc..." Most people in poverty CHOOSE not to break that cycle by making poor choices or failing to make any choice.

Stop acting like the poor are mere victims of the Elite when the TRUE victims are the middle-class who are raped and robbed via taxes to support the poor, which actually makes, not only the wealthy but also, the poor the nefarious victimizers. Yes, the system is partially rigged, but the evidence of people who pull themselves out of poverty shows that it is possible.

This made you laugh "I don't understand the world? LOL . It makes me laugh too.

In the past, a person could raise his family shoveling shit. As time progresses human labor is increasingly obsolete. At some point we need to acknowledge the fact that we don't need everyone to be in the workforce, but everyone needs to eat. Everything else exasperates the problem.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69520829

But remember people didn't have much expenses back then. My parents had one car in the beginning. No cable, no computer, no mobile phone. My mom stayed home and cooked everything basically from scratch and even sewed. Now, my mom grew up in a house without electricity on a farm so that was even less expensive. It is expensive raising a family now because we require so much that are not needs or at least didn't use to be. People want the best of everything. If you live a simple life it is easy to raise a family.

The poor are the ones who keep the economy going, not the rich. we are having so many problems because we've only rewarded the rich in the past that it seems counter intuitive to allow the poor a piece of the pie. However by allowing them a piece and stopping the handouts to the wealthy the economy will improve all around
