Americans would be happier being a monarchy, any country would. Constitutional monarchies have the best of both worlds, a head of state, who is entirely politically neutral and can represent the country abroad in a good light without the inevitable cringe making embarrassment and grandstanding self importance of a president while still maintaining a vibrant democracy. If your prime minister gets caught with his pants down, you don't need to have an election.

America is against the idea of a constitutional monarchy because their creation myth, Revere's ride, minutemen, liberty bell and all that includes the idea of "tyrant king George" where in actual fact of course it was Frederick North's Tory party, an elected government, making all the wrong decisions about the colonies.
