Drugs release these same chemicals in your brain that get released when people tell you that you are great. When people get low, they go and drink/drug/etc. 2. You can see yourself as a valuable member of society, even when you are off alone. Preppers, exploreres, artists. They believe they are doing something necessary for society. 3. People anthopomorphize nature/plants/animals and these things become their 'herd'. You see this behavior in 'cat ladies' and things like that. and there are other factors. I was just covering the basic 'suicide circuit' built into humans, and why it's there. The harsh truth is, as automation takes over, and each of is less needed in society, we are all losing respect for one another and we are all losing self esteem. It's a very interesting psychological phenomena. But if scientists don't understand how this works (shrug) what am I gonna' do about it? I'm just a nuclear engineer. |

Your a delusion person to try and break down something so important and complex into a simple theory. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30839899 Herd, pack, pride, flock, society... you get the point. Sex is complex too. But at it's root it is simple. Procreation. respect/status/self esteem/ego/suicide... all seems really complex. But at it's root it's simply all about the survival of the 'social organism'. Not that deep dude. Chill. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 5764474 United States 05/05/2016 08:38 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | For starters... you have 'sociopaths'. These people are different. Their self esteem is not affected by others. They also do not have empathy. Because a sociopaths self esteem is not affected by others, often times they seem charismatic. Sociopaths also find non-sociopaths irritating. They don't know why everyone is always so 'depressed' and 'emotional' about everything. Then... you have to realize that just because you identify someone as being part of your herd, doesn't mean they see it the same way. For instance, you may see a fellow Christian standing in Church with you. And you feel like he is part of your 'pack' or whatever. Meanwhile, that guy in his mind is actually a satan worshipper, and he's just at the church, plotting mayhem. Pretending to be a Christian. He sees you as his enemy. A lot of this stuff is covered in the book 'sociopath next door'. It talks about how we identify with groups and only feel empathy for certain groups that we identify with. |
