I am glad the OP made the point that her child does use sunscreen and is careful. The worst time to be out in the sun is between 2pm and 3pm or with daylight saving add an hour, which is a bastard when your fair skinned children want to play outside after school, I loathe daylight saving. Sunscreen cannot protect anybody for 3 hrs at the worst time of day regardless of how olive their skin is, you can do a lot of damage without appearing to be burnt. The sun definitely has a bite to it the last few years that it didn't have before, you can actually feel it burning your skin some days. Make your child wear a UV 30+ rashy shirt as they will still get burnt through a normal t-shirt if they are swimming for too long and knee length boardies are a great idea for girls as well.

Thanks for the headsup on how bad the sun is this summer.
