Navy SEAL trainee dies during 'drown proofing' exercise, report says
A Navy SEAL trainee died Friday in a swimming exercise during his first week of BUD/S in Coronado, the Virginian-Pilot reported Tuesday.

The 21-year-old sailor, Seaman James Derek Lovelace, was participating in a swimming exercise known as “drown proofing” when a safety observer noticed he was having difficulty, a Navy spokesman told the newspaper. He was brought to the edge of the pool where he lost consciousness.

SEAL training is very dangerous. This is not the first training fatality, will not be the last.

All combat training is dangerous.

Nonetheless, it is extremely sad to lose someone.

You sign a waiver before going into that school that basically says you could die and you can't sue. His family still gets the insurance money relax.

They didn't really specify but I'm assuming it's the training where they hold you under water and drown you on purpose then revive you.

You must stay calm. Half of drownings are actually heart attacks from panicking.

I know a navy seal...he was a whiny little brat with adhd as a child, and I'm astounded that he's become one of these guys! Too bad our government will probably get him killed doing something needless and stupid.
