I always tip generously and it's one of the reasons I will never be with out

I even throw some in the tip jar at carry out, because I know the dollar I worked for is not the same these kids work for

But lately I feel like I'm not teaching them anything by doing that

What do you think?

I just feel like I'm telling them someone will always give you more when in reality that is not true

Re: What do you guys think about leaving tips in the tip jar?
You're not doing them any favors by using the tip jar. The jar is just another representation of "everyone gets a trophy" since they usually split the jar equally. Tip anyone you think deserves it in person and preferably in full view of the 'others'. Sooner or later the 'others' will get the message that you can't mooch off the efforts of people who are better than you. You're training prospective welfare recipients if you use the tip jar.

Re: What do you guys think about leaving tips in the tip jar?
I supervise in a coffee shop. I and my team work extremely hard, and our tips are one of the highest in the city for our biz.

I not only work hard on helping the customer get a quality drink that they ordered, but I am an innovator - creating new products and methods for my coffee shop. Growing it, if you will.

If our tips were not as high as they are, I wouldn't work here. Good tips and the loyalty of our customers is a big reason I chose to be here.

^ to add :

I am worth more than I make at this place. I've made great money in other endeavours - but I wanted to find something I enjoyed doing. This is a good job, and the innovations I work towards not only help the bottom line of the biz - but give our customers better options and quality.

Please, keep tipping us else you'll lose people like me.

It's admirable that you're concientious(?) but how do you feel about splitting the benefits of your labor with the putz who's grooming his/her belly button lint instead of working equally hard ?

Those people come and go quickly. As a manager, it's actually a great hardship to properly train new employees and to inspire them to work well. The greatest difficulty is definitely communication - you can't just bark at people all day. This has taught and is teaching me a great deal of patience and communication skills. More so than I ever could learn while attending college.

Re: What do you guys think about leaving tips in the tip jar?
I'll put tips in a tip jar if I like all of the service there.

I've found tipping pizza delivery guys well is worth it because they'll deliver rocket fast once they get to know me and my location.

I remember one guy handing me my pizza at my door in less than 30 minutes every time. One time it was here in like 20 minutes.

He must have been a ninja.
Yeah I did it, and it can't be undone.
