That is not a DEFAULT!!! Trump just said he would look at giving offers to buy back debt from foreign Governments, at a discount. If someone is holding your bonds and you come to a valid contractual agreement to buy back that debt at a discount in a cash transaction, that would not be considered a default. It would be another boring day at the office for the people handling it. If the bond owners stick to their guns and want to hold the bonds to maturity they have the right to do that, and you are still on the hook for the remainder of the life of the loan. This would have to be a deal that makes both sides happy, or either one can refuse the new deal. It is that simple. It would not be considered a default. Default is missing a contractual payment like Puerto Rico just did last week. Not gonna happen...

The national debt doubled under Obama, yet no one asks him why did he blow all that money? They are harping on Trump as to his plan on reducing the debt - but it's Obama that has bankrupted the US.

The national debt doubled under George W Bush, yet no one asks him why did he blow all that money? They are harping on Trump as to his plan on reducing the debt - but it's George W Bush that has bankrupted the US.
