Since GLP is loaded with photography experts especially concerning pictures/videos of anonymous extraplanetary objects please tell all us common folk exactly what camera +lens/filter is required to rule out these objects! Many of us have the means to simply go buy these items to stop this lens flare/filter flare nonsense. I suspect the only filter/lens that will stop these sightings is the black cap that comes with a camera but I'd like to hear from the dozen or so photography experts on GLP who seem to know so much about it! Please enlighten us with your expert knowledge of photo optics!

I'm no photography expert but I know cell phones are not designed to take pics of the sun. I know that when in school we made a simple device to watch an eclipse. It was a toilet paper tube with a cardboard cap on one end with a very small hole you peered thru. Not allowing too much light was the key. I've seen solar filters for 35mm cameras, some are a smokey dark filter and some are lens caps with small holes in the center. Perhaps a Google search of the best way to photograph the sun??

I dont really feel like going into the science of it all, but here's a cost effective solution to what your trying to do. Head to a hardware store and buy a glass welding lens. They're in expensive, between 10-20 bucks. They have different shade numbers, the higher the number indicating a darker shade; something between a number 10-12 will do. Just tape that lens over the front of your camera lens and that will allow you to record and/or photograph the sun without filter flares. The image will be clear too, it's how people get shots of the arc during welding videos. Last Edited by Cade on 07/02/2016 09:27 PM
