'Hybrid warfare' and 'peaceful rise' are the two strategies that have allowed Russia and China to both circumvent NATO's Article V charter, as well as the freedom of navigation treaties in the high seas.

The first cuts NATO in half, driving a wedge between the alliance and preventing further expansion.

The second creates a stranglehold on the world's most vital shipping lane - the Strait of Malacca.

Think about this. Russia and China have actually managed to get the jump on the U.S and its allies before the next global conflict kicks off.

Bush and the neo-cons thought they were getting the jump on Russia and China with 9/11 and pouring massive military forces into Central Asia, but both Afghanistan and Iraq were disasters - virtually no Western forces remain in either country.

Instead, it bled the US dry financially, creating a massive debt and exhausting the army, most of whom are now back home or rotating around the South Pacific.

This is really quite serious. When the next big war kicks off, America and its allies are in an awful position. Russia has kept its forces in the lands its military has entered (Georgia, Crimea, Syria, eastern Ukraine, Armenia). It is even adding more.

China is also increasing its military presence in the South China Sea and about to launch a second aircraft carrier into the region to cement its control over the vital shipping lanes and strategic islands.

What is America doing? Dispatching a couple of hundred troops into the Baltics...Occasionally sending a recon plane near the Spratly Islands...bowing to Saudi royals and cutting back on crucial R&D programs.

This is not good, and will need to change if they want a shot at winning the next war. The Pentagon have even said this themselves.
