A quick cliff notes to a related story, a while back Scotts/Miracle Gro sold contaminated bird seed for two years, they treated it with a fungicide that was known to kill birds and not intended for use on wild bird food products. A whistleblower alerted higher ups in the corporation but they did nothing to stop it as they were making more money by extending the shelf life of the product and they didn't care that people bought it to feed wild birds and the birds were dropping dead from eating it.

When this was exposed it caused a scandal and a boycott of Scotts/Miracle Gro products.

Today if you google for information about a Scotts/Miracle Gro boycott, what you see, if you don't dig further, is a boycott over the company donating to organizations that support gay marriage.

I am 100% sure that this was a total PR move to bury the poison bird food scandal. They know perfectly well that no one gives a shit about gay marriage one way or the other. But poison bird seed? yeah people care about that and I support that boycott.
