Tumbler and Petra approached the probe at 90 degrees from their line of flight. As they passed they protected themselves with their shields on full. They rammed the probe with small asteroid fragments.

The Federation watchers witnessed the following: the probe sustained superficial damage to the outer hull of the probe. The probe responded with a burst of energy directed at the Tumbler and Petra which was easily deflected by their energy shields. The interior occupants did appear to react defensively and turned the probe toward the retreating ThunderMoths. The Probes image screen clearly showed the two Federation accomplices returning for a second attack. This time the Probe deployed a force field shield for protection. When Tumbler and Petra returned they received a communication signal from the Probe. The signal was a form of pulsating visual data using colors and a complex flow and mixture of the colors in patterns not unlike a kaleidoscope.
