once firmly established sickness and slow death usually follow. the infected happily spread the the parasite due to the pleasure involved in the act of passing the infection. not realizing the consequences till it is too late.

in order for a parasite to thrive, it has to do several things. one of them is to have a high reproduction rate. another is to not kill the host too quickly. convincing the host that they need you to survive is the holy grail.

Mona woke up first and left the quiet room immediately without comment. All she wanted to do was to talk to Harry and her children. She had not felt so down for over one hundred years. Was this it? Was this the end of the road? She was devastated.

She went to her quarters and fell on her couch, Harry and the kids were apparently on patrol and would not return for many hours to come. Mona had not had a vision for decades and thought that was past her. She didn't know where to turn. She got herself up and went to the nearest Chapel. She needed inspiration, ideas, a direction to go toward, anything.

On leaving the Chapel Mona ordered a formal meeting of the Federation War Council. The meeting was to take place within 24 hours. Now, however, she went to meet with Kat, Sam1, Dr. Dearborn and the Sisters. She wanted their analysis before the full meeting of the GGF membership.

As she sat down they all were looking grim. As usual Mona turned to Moonbeam to summarize what they knew and what to expect.

Moonbeam summarized the situation.

1. We have a 99.9% understanding of the Torg Federation's language.
2. While the GGF controls 2,000 Galaxies the Torg controls twice that number.
3. The Torg intend an invasion of the GFF within 12 months.
4. As far as we know they are not aware of our capabilities or surveillance.
5. Within the 4,000 galaxies controlled by them all non-Torg Sentient life has been eliminated. They do not conquer and assimilate. They conquer and annihilate. Prisoners are captured and used as food, entertainment, or slaves until they starve or die from abuse.
6. The only species the Tardigrades tolerate, other than themselves, are a few Cephalopod like races who look like octopuses, squids and cuttlefish. They all breath the same methane rich environments.

Moonbeam continues: "the only weakness they have, as far as we can discern, is they concentrate all their population, military forces and resources within the Torg. This solar system sized vessel is everything.

They only have skeleton crews that remain in the far flung galaxies. They depopulate each galaxy one at a time and leave a fleet of probes manned by their Cephalopod slaves to guard their frontiers.

In their historical libraries no one has tried to take a Galaxy they have conquered in over 20,000 years.

The LeviathanIV is now the only thing between the Torg and the first GGF galaxy in their sights. We have one year to stop or delay their march to destruction."

Later the next day, the presentation continued at the War Council. Based on the Torg's actions and communication they had targeted the most populated solar system within the threatened galaxy.

Their strategy was to use the size and mass of the Torg vessel to disrupt and destroy the populated worlds and mop up the remnants to fill their slave markets and fill their soon to be depleted food stores.

Unless there was a weapon unknown to the GGF that could be used, little could be done. For once the Sisters were not confident of a strategy that could stop this simple assault.

Even the use of giant artificial wormholes was thought to be useless against this enormous entity.

After the War Council, Mona became more concerned though she did not telegraph her feelings. She had talked freely with Harry but withheld her deep depression with her children and other friends.

No one person had a solution. She had the most brilliant minds in 2,000 Galaxies and billions of years of military history at her disposal. If there were countermeasures she was not aware of what they were.

She decided to talk to the Torg and try some type of negotiation. Another thought was to try to destroy their command and control center and steering mechanisms. However, they were totally decentralized, there was no single control center or leadership. They were a collective of independent minds with a single evil intent.

Mona decided it was time to confront the Torg with a message and demonstration of defiance.

Since color was their language she decided to create the largest light show possible. The Sisters arranged an enormous pyrotechnical show that would be initiated within the Torg vessel itself.

The components for the visual display were to be quantum leaped to be seen in multiple locations throughout the encapsulated solar system. The question is, what message is the right message?

Would threats work, would promise of cooperation work? Mona had much to consider.

Mona and the War Council expected a tepid response but this was beyond even their negative expectations. Since the GGF had a year before the first major attack, they hoped for some breakthrough to help their collective dilemma.

An evacuation of the first solar system affected was being considered. Mona and the entire ShadowLand members were rotating continually within the Torg to uncover anything that might be helpful.

Mona was alone and with her thoughts. She prayed for some insight or solution but so far all she got was silence.

Mona then decided to spend some one-on-one time with Genesis and asked her to meet her in one of the biospheres.

Genesis was very pleased to spend some private time with her Aunt and rushed to meet her on the rain forest overlook.

Genesis ask: "Aunt Mona, thank you for spending time with me, is there something I can do to help?"

Mona states: "many, many years ago I routinely would have visions and vivid dreams that helped me solve major problems. It has been years since I experienced such events. Have you experienced anything like this yourself."

Genesis responded: "funny you should ask, I have been having a recurring vivid dream about some type of strange creature that lives within the atmosphere of what appears to be a star. This has happened several times and I can make no sense of it. Do you know what it might mean?"

Mona shouts, "Oh my God, Yes!"

Mona grabbed Genesis, picked up the petite girl, and swings her around in a bear hug.

Mona immediately asked the Sisters, Sam1, Harry, Kat, Chaos and Destiny to meet her and their daughter in the Sisters' Laboratory immediately.

Once in the lab, Mona was about to bust into laughter. She had Genesis repeat her story and most of the assembled group immediately understood.

There was a real possibility the Torg could be defeated! There was hope!

Mona presented this history:

The ultimate goal of the organism is to produce a super nova.

1,245
26,591

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!

These explosively distributed spores have to find their way to an asteroid and become encased in minerals that are on an asteroid with sufficient water and or volcanic activity to become encapsulated in geodes or nodules and aged for eons.

Once sufficiently aged the geode impregnated asteroid must crash into just the right size star.

Then and only then if conditions were just right the geodes rupture before being totally destroyed and the organisms start to feed and grow until they again produce the spores.

In summation these StarKillers consume hydrogen by converting it into helium through nuclear fusion, and if there are enough of them within a star, these organism may dramatically quickens the star's death. There are three possible outcomes for the star whose core becomes a stellar remnant: a white dwarf, a neutron star, or if it is sufficiently massive a black hole. However, the ultimate goal of the organism is to produce a super nova.

We think the Lionids feel they can change a process taking billions of years into one that takes just a few decades or less."

Mona challenged the Sisters to outline a strategy to locate and collect the seeded geodes in sufficient numbers to result in a super nova within six months or less of infection.

The strategy would, of course, require a way to deliver the geodes to the Torg central massive star. The problem is once the seeding occurred there would be no way to recall the outcome. This will be a one way street.

Mona wondered if she should give the Torg rulers one more chance to turn and survive or simply destroy them without warning.

The Sisters immediately enlisted the assistance of Medusa and Geedeeze. These two used the spores as tools of terror to gain favor with the Lionid traitors. They would have a feel on which general locations were best to begin the search for the spores.

The Sisters also reached out to Petra and Tumbler for assistance with the legions of ThunderMoths who could help locate the highest concentrations of the rare geodes throughout the Galaxies.

Chaos and Destiny would then manage the collection and mining operations and Harry would guarantee their transport to a collection point.

The Sisters had calculated the approximate number of spores and growth rates needed to accomplish super nova status of the massive star. It was felt the star could be depleted of its hydrogen sufficiently within four months of infection with enough spores.

Mona was mulling over how to orchestrate the operation. She felt an obligation to give the Torg's occupants one last chance to avoid destruction but would not give them any additional time to bring down more destruction on the target solar systems than was already inevitable.

The timeline would flow in the following manner. Once sufficient spores were collected they would be quantum leaped into the Torg's inner orbit to be ready for injection into the outer corona of the massive central star.

Mona would give the occupants an opportunity to turn from their attack vector, once they rejected the offer of peace, the spores would be injected and additional spores would follow as soon as available.
