I think many resented that war,and it tore many families apart. Any Jungle war is a horrible war, but especially when you are the invading force. For example in New Guinea, the Allies became the invading force because the Japs got there first. In Vietnam it was worse because the people who you were invading had lived there for thousands of years. |

With no food no ammo, only a bayonet and a machete to defend himself, using the cover of night to silently off a few japs here and there and steal their provisions. They were up against several divisions of IJA severely outnumbered. There was talk about possible cannibalism going on, they regularly cooked rats to eat to stop passing out from hunger if they could make a fire. The Japs poisoned all the streams for water. It was hell on earth. Until the Americans finally broke through the Japanese Navy blockades. If it wasn't for the Americans getting through I wouldn't even exist my Mother would never have been born. |

Ghurka were wiped out.Sikhs wiped out etc etc etc . And the fools cut his pension and leave him off the memorial. |

This couple i met and became friends with was Bonnie and er husband John,he was a korean war vet,the nicest ppl you could ever meet,we would have dinner sometimes at their place etc,they often said and this was common among many of them old timers Why dont our kids listen to us like you do?" My friends would rib me sometimes,my response to my friends "These guys are not going to be around much longer,what they saw and did you should hear them. |

My Pop was in the Normandy landings, he was permanently deaf in 1 ear and partly deaf in the other. Although I never had a problem speaking to him, and he never asked for a pension from anyone. He was still up a ladder painting at 67 when he dropped dead from a stroke. The stroke or fall didn't actually kill him the pneumonia did, but he was old and smoked 2 packs a day. The stories he told me about the "sea of blood", still make my stomach feel queasy. How he told me how oily blood is how its not like water its very oily like paint. |
