I am my own kind of car freak. The one I loved the best? The 69 Dodge Charger. Or the 80 Turbo Trans Am w the five color blue firebird.
It's a toss up. Have dreams I still drive those.

PS I bought them myself Honey.

I seriously want to get ahold of a Mustang II (Cobra if possible), restore it and make it shine!

I drove one for a bit less than a year. They are so freaking ugly I'll look good standing by it in comparison.

With a little knowledge you can make your car yours.
Dig in, learn ohms law, and go from there.

And it's sensors.

Or you could regress back to the old days, which works too if you don't have the drive to learn electronics.

It's a great idea, but I've talked with master mechanics and Traction Control, one of my biggest peeves, is so thoroughly embedded you just can't bridge something here or unplug something there, it's made to be an essential part of the whole vehicle "system".

Same damned thing with freakin side mirrors. I have all the connections for an upgrade to fancier side mirrors, but they don't function and cannot be made to function even though they are right freaking there. The dealer has to flash the car to "upgrade it". They tried it and it didn't work. Know what I did? I said fuck it, bought a pair of signalling relays and hardwired the damned things in.

Vehicles are such a damned joke these days.

Re: New cars are such a disappointment
I bet you the VW bug of the 60s and 70s gets nearly the same mileage that they get today...

So my 5.4 liter 2008 mercedes gets way better mileage then my 5.0 2006 mercedes got. The 5.4 liter is 382hp/389tq and 5.0 had 302hp/339tq.. so hmmm..

Then the look at bmw 5 series.. from 2009 on up they actually started to decrease the mpg and hp... they got secret bailout money to build the dirty diesel, which was going to be used as a next generation cop car by carbon concepts, the boondoggle obama shit.

Get one of those 2009 - 2011 bmw diesels, they got a 3 and x5.. benz got a 2003 to 2009 diesel as well.

They fuckin with us with the mpg on all these fake ass cars like toyota and hoondie, while europe gets the big super diesel motors... I never knew but I guess they are just better :P

listened to some guy bragging about how his pickup just cuts the power if it starts to slide on ice and how easy it is to drive. I pointed at my foot and said "See that?" "Here, I'll do it again" All I do is lift my toe 2mm and it quits sliding as well

Re: New cars are such a disappointment
Looking at a BMW i8 myself low end cars are very disappointing aren't they.

I'm turning in a 2014 mustang GT premium in October and I won't be getting a new car

Cencors, dingers, airbags, nothing but intrusive safety features that have destroyed the fun that driving was

On my car, not only did I have to set all car settings to sport I actually had to engage sport mode to turn off traction control

Really? Every time you start the car?

Should be a push button one time and done

I considered getting the Nissan 370 nizmo

Same problem, 350 hp 300 fp of torque for 41k

No thanks, done with new cars, buying an old rust bucket Ford truck and that's the end of it

What do you drive? What do you like? What are you getting rid of or keeping?

Do you like or dislike all this safety shit?

Re: New cars are such a disappointment
I drive for one of the big car rental outfits, and thus get to try all the new vehicles.

The worst thing about them is that the driver is no longer physically connected to the drivetrain anymore. All the controls are electronic. You have to tell the computer what to do and the computer drives the car.

you really notice the difference making a tight U-turn on a steep grade, when every time you change gears, brake, turn etc. the computer takes a second or so to get the instructions and transmit the info and thus the power to the wheels.

nowadays i'd go for a early 2000's era Subura with a standard transmission, where you can actually feel the road below you.
