Tourist eaten by crocodile while swimming at night, politician says its stupidity that killed her

its a national park in Australia. so its actually ILLEGAL to kill crocodiles there.

it's impossible to make Australia "safe for humans" and it's impossible to forbid people from going outside "safe" zones (if there actually are any!)

people from other countries just need to rapidly learn that what works out okay at home can easily get you killed in Australia! like these Germans found out!


"Four German tourists have been rescued after their car was stuck in a crocodile-infested river in Kakadu National Park.

Police say the group ignored warning signs and tried to cross Magela Creek on the Oenpelli Road just after 11:00am (ACST) on Monday.

The crossing is about 100 metres wide and was one metre under water at the time.

Superintendent Debbie Smith says the group tried to drive through the crossing at 80 kilometres per hour and the engine stopped about halfway across."

No you CAN'T just drive down the highway at 80km/hr regardless of conditions! if the sign says the road is flooded and you can't cross, THEN YOU HAVE TO STOP!!!

But they got lucky, cops rescued them from CROCODILES after only 30 minutes!

I've never seen a Mexican here and Spanish tourists can usually speak English, the signs also have pictures for the reading impaired.

Danger to humans and first aid

Bush walkers have been known to be 'dropped on' by drop bears, resulting in injury including mainly lacerations and occasionally bites. Most attacks are considered accidental and there are no reports of incidents being fatal.

There are some suggested folk remedies that are said to act as a repellent to Drop Bears, these include having forks in the hair or Vegemite or toothpaste spread behind the ears.

Back in the late 1990s, I had a fight with my hubby while we were visiting Cairns (south of where this crocodile attack took place). I took a taxi to the airport to wait for a flight out the next morning. Several hours later, at around 3:30 a.m., I had sober second thoughts and decided to go back to hubby to try to patch things up. However, as there were no taxis at the very small regional airport, I decided to walk the one kilometer through back to town.

Once past the airport lights, the road through the mangrove swamp was pitch black. All I could see were faint lights from fireflies. As I stumbled along in the dark with my suitcase, a taxi pulled up behind me from the direction of the airport. I thought that was odd, because I hadn't seen any taxis parked in the small lot in front of the airport, and yet here was a taxi. He stopped the car, pushed open the passenger door, and barked at me: "Get in." Something in the tone of his voice made me obey him even though I thought he was being downright rude.

"Shut the door", he said.

I shut the car door.

Then he turned off the car's headlights and we sat in darkness. I started to panic, thinking that he was a rapist who was going to attack me.

"You see all those lights?" he said.

I said: "Yeah, the fireflies."

He turned around, stared me in the face, and said: "They're not fireflies." And then he turned the headlights back on and shone them onto the road ahead of us.

What I saw made me catch my breath: What I'd thought were fireflies were actually the gleaming eyes of dozens of crocodiles spread out along the side of the road.

I was in shock.

The taxi driver stepped on the gas and we sped through the midst of the crocs and back to the lights of the town. He dropped me off at my hotel and refused payment.

To this day, I'm still not sure if he really was a taxi driver. All I know is that if he hadn't shown up exactly when he did, I wouldn't be here to write this comment.

Crocodiles should become extinct . What good are they. They should be gone, like dinosaurs.
