First of all what makes you think the gorilla would have hurt or killed the child? Second of all why is it that ALL life both animal and plant has to suffer all the time under the onslaught of human stupidity ????

The gorilla was clearly protecting the child, either from the other gorillas or from what he perceived as "enemies" (humans).

The 4-year-old was too young to have a hormonal smell, so the gorilla would not have perceived him as threatening.

The gorilla was in full-on child protection mode.

To kill the animal for protecting the child is so back-asswards that it still leaves me shaking my head.

Interesting, and might explain why domestic pets like cats and dogs are the same way towards children (not saying there aren't exceptions). Then again some sort of hormonal smell I would think would be required for said full on child protection mode to be activated, or that requires a visual only?

And don't male gorillas sometimes kill other baby gorillas that aren't theirs? Why would they kill a baby of their own species and instinctively protect a baby of another?
