How many of you have experienced being the only white person at work, school, etc. around black people and did it ever turn out well? | |

I was white boss lady over a bunch of young Indian fellows. I had no issue apart from the instructions being conveyed in Hindi. There weren't even any issues over me being female. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72269740 That's good to hear. That was a good experience, then. This was the first race based work experience I had. Obviously, I wouldn't put it on everyone as a race, but....the activity he did (stop work, start talking to other people, interfere with my work in my space/area) without even the TINIEST concern that he was bothering the living daylights out of me because I didn't know him and he was constantly in my way, walking behind me, talking, and interferring with my work. Which then escalated. I just want to sum up in my mind what happened, as I did just lose my job over this, and don't understand if people invading your workspace is a normal thing or something I was justified in needing to say something to him (i was kind, but stern) instead of excuse me (several hundred times) to it escalating to where he was threating violence towards me. I don't think I'm going to attempt another work related job where i (white) am in the minority around (black) people. Not because of the majority of black people, but because it was just not a positive experience. |

So, im not just to sum it up as a race issue, i just think he was an inconsiderate SOB who made me lose my job because he was interferring with my work and I'm not the type to say excuse me 500 times over and over again, until maybe he gets the picture. |

You need to get this shit down on video, and to keep a log, exact time, what was said etc. All the best. Quoting: Judethz It's a right to work state with a union and was a job that was probably going to disappear at the end of the month in manufacturing, anyways, but it still wanted to work until we were laid off. Anyways, i'm just trying to sum it up in my brain. |

On the walk from our car, people smiled and asked, "you going to the show?" They seemed happy we were there. We were never shown any hostility the whole time. Only friendly acknowledgment. I was blown away by the performances. There was nothing like it on TV, they were amazing. And people got up on the stage, danced in the aisles, danced in their seats--one big party, and everyone was invited. It was one of the most fun nights I've ever had. OP, this isn't work related, but you just reminded me of a wonderful experience. A few friends (all white) and I decided to go to the soul show at the Uptown in Philly. This was many years ago, maybe 1970. We were the only white people there, and place was packed. Quoting: AwakeDreamer On the walk from our car, people smiled and asked, "you going to the show?" Heterogeneous countries always end up homogenous. I'm very sad and bitter over looking at the past and seeing the future will be a repeat. |

The clerk was black, and other customers. All black.. I was beat so bad, fractured skull, jaw, and ribs. 177 stitches. I lost my job, my car, everything. Not one person help me. And all because I needed gas, and pulled off the highway. Took me over 3 months to recover. By then it was too late. Lost everything. They never found the guys! |

Freshman dorm room 1978, 3 black guys and me. That lasted about a week. I tried everything I could think of to fit in but they wanted me out. They went to whoever was in charge of room assignments and it was done. Had the races been reversed the same treatment would never have happened. Fast forward 20+ years, I'm in Indy, need a haircut so I stop at a place with a barber pole out front and go in. Black barber shop, all black clientele. I take a seat, no one acknowledges me, I wait patiently for my turn until I realize that several people who've come in after me have been attended to while I just sat there. When I finally said something the barber said "we don't cut white hair". So... |

The first job I had offshore was cleaning grease tanks on offshore oil rigs. The crew consisted of 12 blacks, 2 whites, and 1 Hispanic. The whites and the Hispanic worked their asses off while the blacks slept in the grease. The reason why We had to work hard is because We had to pull all the blacks weight. Honestly though 1 black generally worked but that's only because He was the look out whom woke up the others when the boss came down the hole. |

I don't hire Negroes, therefore I don't work with them. I don't hang out in the ghetto either so my exposure to them is quite limited. I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. I will, under protection of law, use lethal force if attacked. |

He has it out for our table because we look like the prototypical good looking "privilegedz" white kids.. comes up ll mean and tough, "yall ain't been pickin up yo trays after you done eatin and I gotta pick them up. I'm the one who responds, "I think it's rude the way you come up and interupt us eating, accusing us of the shit I sit here and watch the black football team do every single day - leaving three trays each. And I always pick up my tray and drop it in the bins. Please leave us alone." And that was it. Dude went off yelling on me.. "oh that's it.. you gonna talk back to me white boy? Your momma nrva whoop yo ass!? I'll see you round campus motha fucka! You dead!" This was what I went into college debt for.. so after chem 101 class a couple weeks later, I'm walking down the stairwell to avoid elevator traffic and sure as shit this huge groid and three of his brothas are coming up the stairs and he grabs my ass by the throat and slams me up against the wall.. "now you dead motha fucka!" Then one of his boys told him not to do it because he'd lose his negro college fund grant money or whatever..this was the height of the 90s tupac gangsta wannabe black thug culture music and that fucking school was a god damn housing project zoo they at that time. Probably is worse now with obama and them acting even more like "they da boss! pick up ya damn tray white boy!" fucking lame deal.. don't go to SIU. Even if you can afford to live off campus (also a driveby ghetto), they force you to live on campus the first two years. I dropped out after I witnessed the first driveby shooting and also the being slammed up against the wall incident.. although I could have dealt with that. |
