The cultural mindfuck that is coming to America

Pre-Orlando shooting you had typical middle-Americans who neither hated gays nor Muslims. Didn't necessarily like them either. They didn't really feel as if either pertained to their daily lives. Didn't really talk about it. Out of sight, out of mind.

The average American didn't hate the LGBT community, they just didn't want to have to be confronted with it on a regular basis, in their communities, etc. Didn't want to have to be forced into conversations with their kids before their kids were ready.

With regard to Islam, America being founded on religious freedom has been mostly reluctant to condemn it as a whole. Opting to give moderates the benefit of the doubt, even in the face of 9/11 or the numerous attempts throughout the world to stoke terror since then.

Now the average American is being corralled into solidarity with the LGBT community against the hate and violence of radical Islamic terrorism. It will create a sort of social cognitive dissonance, for at least a little while, because middle America would rather not deal with either of these intellectually foreign concepts. America, as a whole prefers neither over the other. Now it will have to choose.

How this cognitive dissonance will be reconciled will be very unpredictable. It may well rend the very fabric of our society.

For sure some people will dial out, opt out, retreat into their own little world and deny, deny, deny. Some will react violently. Others will protest. Political factions will deepen. All of this on top of the already toxic cultural cocktail we have been imbibing with this election cycle.

It very difficult to think this has not been orchestrated in some fashion. This confluence of events: terror/guns/LGBT/politics is just too much to make up, no one would believe it if it was a movie plot.

So - hold what you got people, it's going to be a bumpy ride from now through November.
