Why should assault rifles be legal? Why shouldn't hand grenades be legal?

Every weapon utilized by a government to oppress a people must be available to the people to ensure that does not happen.

I do not like to stray into worldly politics, for it is a world of deception.

But in this case, I am going to use it as a teachable moment, and I have right, having once serve the people of the United States of America as a Marine for 14 years.

If the right belongs to the individual it is up to the individual to regulate.

And the reason it belongs to the individual is because in the United States of America, the Individual is Sovereign.
