It contains provisions to allow the FBI to use NSLs to coerce ECTRs from providers. See sec 803 in the bill text. [link to www.congress.gov (secure)] I don't know who said it was shot down, but it is flying high actually. Besides, if it gets voted down this time, it will keep recurring until it passes. These things are zombie bills. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 67244533 United States 06/22/2016 04:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | People need to pay fucking attention. What that shitty article on infowars.com is referring to is amendment S.4787 which is tacked on to bill H.R. 2578 and the vote was simply to bring cloture to allow an up/down vote on the amendment. All that means is that it will bounce around a little longer before being voted on. It's only to bring H.R. 2578 in line with S. 3017 which contains the same provision. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 72393347 United States 06/22/2016 04:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The law is irrelevant. No branch of government is following it, much less upholding it. Do you think they are waiting on congress to fill up all of that data storage in that huge new datacenter they built? This is pure political theater, designed to sway voters in one direction or another in an election year. |

I'm not confusing shit. S. 3017 section 803 has the same provision. It is currently in committee. The House tried limiting the ability of .gov to warrantlessly obtain ECTRs last session. This is McCain's attempt to rectify the two bills (H.R. 2578 and S. 3017) prior to passage of S. 3017. And the vote was for cloture on that amendment to allow an up/down vote on the amendment itself. The amendment WAS the provision to allow ECTRs to be obtained via NSLs. No one shot down shit. This amendment will eventually be put on the floor of the Senate for a vote. At that time it will be voted on. Wake up. |
DarthPaulson User ID: 72410972 United States 06/22/2016 05:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | SENATE REJECTS EFFORT TO CIRCUMVENT 4TH AMENDMENT Quoting: The_Original_Mind On Wednesday, the Senate rejected an effort proposed by Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) to allow the FBI to search web browsing history, email account data and other electronic communications without a court order. McCain and Burr argued circumventing the Fourth Amendment is required in “lone wolf” terror cases conducted by the FBI. The proposal was introduced after the attack in Orlando. The measure, presented as an amendment to a spending bill to fund government agencies including the Justice Department, failed to receive the 60 votes required, although the vote was close. Earlier this year, the House passed a bill to limit the government’s ability to access email. [link to www.infowars.com] Rand voted the right way. Wish he was VP candidate for Trump. |

I do think this is a Mandela effect if so, I would say up this one. No, doubt about liking this one. Is there any more good things they have done? Only know it is not the usual thing. I am not complaining about this. Sorry I got a headache These are the times that tries men's and women's souls! May we come though it victorious! |

Looks like I need to give my traitorous senators a good tongue lashing and a copy of the 4th amendment... again. "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |
