They are primarily in prison for their spiritual beliefs. The are Falun Gong, Tibetans, house Christians and Uyghurs.

It is the only country where it is a government owned and operated industry. It is the only country in the world where you can get organs in 2 weeks, on schedule. This means they are killing somebody for the organs on schedule, instead of having to wait for a year or two.

What is called prisoners of conscience. They have not committed crimes such as murder or burglary, their crime is doing something like practicing a religion the government does not like or holding political views contrary to the government.

If the government here clamped down hard on political speech, there would be a few thousand potential prisoners of conscience at GLP.

Falun Gong has never been declared illegal in China, whose constitution guarantees freedom of religion. But former dictator Jiang Zemin declared war on it. so they are imprisoned for having books or CDs or talking to people about it. House Christians are not members of the official quasi-Christian approved church.

They are innocent prisoners.

And China's constitution guarantees freedom of belief, just as ours does. This is often a defense in the trials of Falun Gong, but in those trials the guilty verdict is always prearranged by the Communist Party officials, so off the prison they go.
