lurked at the emergency room parking lot last night
Had an alergic reaction to a bee sting.

Decided not to go through the door to save $600.

Had eaten 2 benedryl and leg still hurts from an out of date epi pin.

Got stung on the hand. Breathing got raspy, passed out standing up and squished my 2 year old on the way to the ground.

This morning my hand the size of an ovenmit , but leg hurts worse from epi pin. First epi pin use, is this normal?

seems fine, she was screaming bloody murder while I was getting stuck in the leg, but was chilled out by the time she got in the car seat for the ride.

Makes me want to move to the city to avoid bee doom.

You need to get some cheap Promethazine it requires a prescription here so maybe consider Mexican pharmacies or something?

she lectured me on the way to the hospital about how she was scheduling a dr visit to got an Rx immediatly , no arguments

we've relied on benedrayl and having out of date epic pins in the past

about 5 years ago we took a similar lurk trip to the ER when I got stung on the cheek...that time I threw up out the car window but was much better by the time we got to town

yesterday was my first time trying an epi pin

No its for allergic reactions my ex had allergic reactions to certain anti bioitics in which her hands would swell and her tongue I used to have to rush her to the ER.
And at the ER they gave her this.
We used to keep a lot on hand for this reason.
It is called Urticaria an auto immune reaction to something.

Re: lurked at the emergency room parking lot last night
Allergic urticaria

Histamine and other proinflammatory substances are released from mast cells in the skin and tissues in response to the binding of allergen-bound IgE antibodies to high-affinity cell surface receptors. Basophils and other inflammatory cells are also seen to release histamine and other mediators, and are thought to play an important role, especially in chronic urticarial diseases.
Autoimmune urticaria

Over half of all cases of chronic idiopathic urticaria are the result of an autoimmune trigger. Roughly 50% of patients with chronic urticaria spontaneously develop autoantibodies directed at the receptor FcεRI located on skin mast cells. Chronic stimulation of this receptor leads to chronic hives. Patients often have other autoimmune conditions, such as autoimmune thyroiditis, celiac disease, type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren's syndrome or systemic lupus erythematosus.[3]

My grandson has to have epipens handy.
He's needed them twice. Once at school and once at home.

The worst aftereffect of both episodes seems to be the epipen stab site. His leg was sore for a couple of days.

Anaphylaxis happens quickly. For Benadryl to be effective in time, you will need to crush it and place it under the tongue.

You should also have some other over the counter H1 & H2 histamine blockers on hand and take those as soon as you know you have been stung.

Go online and read about using H1 & H2 blockers for immediate treatment of bee stings.

My wife is allergic to fire ants. 1 bite can drop her BP to 70/40.

Thank you! The intel I've been in search of.
My leg won't bend at the knee today, fookin sooks

I was a bit worried that the out of date pin might have fud sum shit up in my leg compared to what a fresh one would have

I'd never heard anyone complain about the aftermath of an epi pin, soreness.
I guess it's a small price to pay, but it caught me off guard.

100% positive that an expired epi-pen injection is no good, very bad. In fact it turns poisonous after it expires, do not use an expired epi-pen, ever. Typically the color of the liquid changes after it goes bad.

^^That^^

Liquid Benedryl will get into your system quickly.

I am a beekeeper and always take a teaspoonful before working the hives. Am not allergic, but sometimes, if part of the bee suit becomes loosened, you can get 10 or so stings. Just a safety precaution.

Hope you feel better soon, OP.

Thanks for the recommendations.

My experience with benadryl capsules has been amazing and sufficient up until last night, things got a bit frantic with me passing out....

20 - 30 seconds after swallowing a capsule symptoms begin to abate, absolutly amazing

I carry a few on my keychain in a nifty little box/keychain

Probably would have done the job last night if we toughed it out.

We're not even sure the juice shot out of the epi pin, was likely the benadryl that saved me $600.

Just hurts because fluid got injected into the muscle.
Massage the spot and it'll disappear quickly.

Medications can last a long time.
One of the biggest studies was done by the Pentagon - look it up if interested.
From memory most meds are 90% effective after 5 years and 80% after 10 years.

If I were you I'd have multiple epipens - a few at home, one in each car. Take them with you traveling.

You did all the right things.
If you lost consciousness and your breathing got difficult you have a very serious reaction and shouldn't muck around.
Benadryl doesn't mean much in a setting like that. Helps a little sure. The epipen is what saves your life. Of course it does wear off after a while - around 30 mins from memory.
Only danger of the epipen is if you're getting older and have a heart condition, or high BP.

You could also get some prednisolone from your family doctor. Phenergan (promethazine) is the strongest antihistamine and you could get a script for some of that too.

Then if you get stung again - use the epipen asap, take the prednisolone and phenergan and drive to the hospital, while taking the extra epipens with you. Any doubts don't stuff around - your life is actually in danger.
