I'm not a basement dweller

I work in the sun all day long and am tanned all over my body but my body isn't absorbing the vitamins from the sun and I have to take 50,000 mg of vit.D every couple of years.
What gives? it doesn't make sense to me.
Also, I have to drink some crap to lower my potassium levels and that stuff gives me the trots.
