That would be Venus. This is what sunset looked like from ISS on July 9th: [link to h.dropcanvas.com] Here's the original recording from NASA on July 9th: [link to www.ustream.tv] Note that the little dot seen setting after the sun, sets about 1:20 after the sun does, the same as Venus in the above gif. Incidentally, in the example from July 9th I found and posted above, there is no "cut." It's visible at about 23 minutes in and again an orbit later at about 1 hour 55 minutes in. Signal interruptions for the HDEV cameras are extremely common. They generally happen multiple times a day. The signal interruption referenced by streetcap1 probably happened on a different orbit that day, but there are orbits where it's visible and there is no cut. Ergo, they weren't trying to hide it. What's annoying to me is to see a rag like the Mirror make no real effort to research this story. It took me all of 5 minutes to identify the object.  |
