OP, I totally empathize with you. I was raised Protestant. About 15 years ago (mid 20s) I think I had a total breakdown about the whole thing. I tried sincerely praying to Jesus to be "born again" but felt nothing (and have tried multiple times since). I've always been a good person, but I knew according to the Bible, that isn't good enough. I was convinced no matter what I did I was going to hell (or at minimum, be separated from God forever).

Today, I'm still wrestling with it...I feel Jesus is/was the truth, but I absolutely cannot reconcile him with the God of the OT who is jealous and vengeful. Too many unanswered questions. I feel the Bible is not THE whole story. There's too much else out there.

In my heart and gut, I have not found any "truth" that truly resonates with me on a spiritual level yet. And I feel empty about it, and so I'm still seeking, searching, hoping...

What is it that you are searching for, and who is searching?

These may sound like silly questions, but they are really at the core of the matter. Superficial religion with all the myths and stories and such cannot scratch that itch you speak of and so they do not resonate with a lot of people. Then they start leaving the churches and the folks in the churches blame the devil and demons, but it is really the stuff they are preaching that sends them out the doors.

Why is it so hard for some people to leave their childhood religion even after it no longer makes sense to them? I never had that problem. When I became dissatisfied, I began reading, and literally within a few days I was free and ready to find the truth. Maybe some people just don't want to read? I don't get it but I'm glad I have an inquiring mind.

Reasonable answers that probably can't be proven but make sense to me and resonate with me. The questions I have about life, the world, the universe, etc., the Christian answers do not make sense or satisfy me. I'm searching for connection to something bigger. I feel disconnected from other people in general (I am pretty introverted). I feel like I don't belong here.

There you will find different expressions of the same eternal truth, one that will let you feel that connection you seek because it is your true nature coming to the surface.
