In every country there are crimes that uniquely reflect its society. National Intelligence Service director-designate Kim Seung-kyu, in a lecture he gave late in May when he was justice minister, said: "The three representative crimes of our country are perjury, libel and fraud."

The common denominator of the three crimes is lying; in short, we live in a country of liars. The prosecution devotes 70 percent of its work to handling the three crimes, the former justice minister said. And because suspects lie so much, the indictment rate in fraud cases is 19.5 percent, in perjury 29 percent and in libel 43.1 percent.

"Internationally, too, there is a perception that South Korea's representative crime is fraud," Kim said, adding that recent major scandals show how rampant lying is in this country.

Such behavior generally has its roots in the arrogance and egotism of those who feel that what they do is always right and anything that gets in the way is wrong. It also springs from a perception that the best strategy is to reject anything that does not fit in with your beliefs -- for example by thinking that you don't have to abide by laws you have decided are "evil".

In Western European countries, the life of a politician or bureaucrat comes to an end when their lies are revealed. Mistakes they forgive; lies never. The lies of leaders and men of power are subject to punishment tens and hundreds of times heavier than that given ordinary people, and to call someone a liar is the ultimate insult.

We, too, need nationwide education to foster a public perception that lying is a crime that degrades human nature and causes a plethora of social evils. We must thoroughly punish slander and deception of others. Our leadership and the entire country have much to learn from the mother in Gwangju who early in June sent her son back to police after false testimony got him off an assault charge, with a request that he be taught some honesty.

Support American farmers and fisherman and read the labels carefully for food “imported from”, “prepared by” or “packaged in” China.

Although I am uncertain of the source for the information listed below, there has been enough exposure of wrong-doing by the Chinese in the press (remember their baby formula that killed scores of infants?) … to suspect that most of what is written below is true or close enough to truth to sharpen my eagle eye in the grocery aisle.

Starkist Tuna is now owned by Korea and is in big conflict with the U.S. concerning quality, safety and records, which Korea refuses to produce.

Smithfield Farms, the largest U.S. pork producer, was sold to China last September. The hogs will be raised here, but slaughtered and packaged there before being sent back to America with the label “raised in the USA.” Their facilities and methods are not even close to ours, and ours leave a LOT to be improved. (You remember the dying cows being kicked into the slaughter facility on YouTube, right?)

Avoid tilapia from Asia. Fish farms are fed raw sewage daily. They have no Food & Safety Inspectors. They simply add food colorings and flavorings and sell it cheap at our chain supermarkets.

Avoid “High Liner” and most frozen fish products from China or Indonesia. The package may say “Pacific Salmon” on the front, but don’t be fooled. The Montreal Gazette had an article documenting cages of chickens over the fish farms, with chicken poop dropping in, along with growth hormones, expired medicines, etc. And of course, shellfish from Asia are the worst of the lot, as bottom feeders of all the sludge.

China is the largest producer of garlic, often grown in human or chicken poop. Lovely. Buy it at the farmers market instead.

Buy local honey only! First because it contains the pollen and micro-nutrients from your area, hence less allergies. But especially because the Chinese honey became so notorious for heavy metals and antibiotics in the honey that they resorted to labeling and shipping through Vietnam and other countries. Throw out the Sue-Bee honey and other American brands that simply put their labels on Chinese honey.

So think about this. 70% of Americans believe that the lopsided trade agreements with China should end. Well, if you’re waiting for the government to do anything, you must still believe in the Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy.

Vote with your dollars! If 200 million North Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that’s a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor … fast. That’s also a billion dollars invested in our own farmers and fishermen, who you can chat with over the counter at the farmers market. Immediate transparency.

My bottom line is that you either pay for good food now, or you pay for the doctor later. I’m reading labels.

That's not even close to a fair deal. Our trade negotiators have the opportunity to change this tilted equation and create some good manufacturing jobs here at home if they simply stopped the Japanese government from manipulating its currency – the yen – in a way that gives it an unfair trade advantage.

But so far our federal trade negotiators have passed the buck and are siding with Japan.

We can't let that happen. The men and women who have put their hard work – and even more than that, their heart and souls – into our factories and made America great are just getting back on their feet. Tell our trade negotiators not to let them down.

Our massive trade deficit is responsible for the transfer of approximately $1.2 million a minute to foreign countries. Our trade deficit demands attention because it is a devastating problem hurting not only the average American worker, but also small and mid-sized companies and communities.

China’s trade policies have inflicted a trade deficit of approximately $1.7 trillion over the last 5 years alone. They use the dollars they accumulate to buy American firms, then ship the jobs back to China to keep the wealth-producing assets there. China’s trade war has cost the U.S. 2.8 million jobs over the last decade.

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown has stated that “our nation’s record trade deficit is more than just a statistic; it affects real jobs in important industries. When industry and the government get tough on cheaters and enforce our trade laws, America wins. That’s why we need to act now on the recommendations published in the Economic Policy Institute’s new report—and stand up for Ohio’s workers and businesses.”

Not only does China cheat on trade, they also cheat on acquiring technology. U.S. firms for the last decade have headed overseas for cheap labor costs because they know they can always sell their goods back in America without any obstacles. However the real price of that cheap labor is usually turning over their technology to the Chinese government. This means as our tech firms get better technologies, so does the Chinese government. Additionally China has been using internet hacking to steal significant advances in weapons technology.

We cannot continue to allow China to cheat on trade, thereby stealing our jobs. We must change our trade policies and implement pro-American policies that will protect our future and ensure our economy is strengthened now and for decades to come.

I have been saying for years that China has found another way of waging war stealthily. They do not believe in being "transparent".
