Man this seems like Revelations....let me explain why

When I was a kid I grew up a southern baptist. I remember this Russian guy came one Sunday as a guest speaker to do a sermon on revelations and what to expect and look for. Can't remember his name but apparently he was a big deal with the bible community at the time. Creepy looking old guy. It was the summer of '93 and I was just about to begin middle school so I had enough anxiety as it was what with all the rumors of the bullying that went on at middle school. Not to mention a friend of mine had drowned the week before in a river so there was that.

Anyways, this speaker began laying out what he thought the tribulation period would look like and things we should expect to take place. First he said homosexuality and sexual immorality would become rampant and commonplace and would actually be condoned. Marriages would no longer work. Every child would have easy access to pornography (this was the point where I called bullshit because I was thinking society would lower the age limit to where kids could buy dirty magazines. I hadn't even heard of AOL yet. It wasn't til '98 when we first got the internet.)

After sexual immorality would come the hatred, racism, and violence. He mentioned kingdom rising against kingdom meant nations as well as races. At the time ,at least where I was growing up, blacks and whites got along just fine. I mean you had your racist dick here and there but aside from that it was fine. I was in North Carolina by the way. He stated that much of this would come from self-idolizing and the whole "I'm better than you" mindset that would basically become like a whole religion in and of itself. He didn't mention earthquakes or anything like that but he did say there would be individual battles worldwide that would build up to World War 3.



This was all I could remember from it but I remember it scaring the shit out of me. It was the first time I had heard it and he speculated it would all happen within the next 50 years. I did the math and thought "Well, I'll be pretty old so thats not so bad." Yet here I am, about to celebrate my 34th birthday and looking around wondering if this is it or just another rough wave we have to get through.

He did offer a disclaimer at the beginning saying that he was not psychic, and did not receive some vision directly from God, but just after studying revelations his whole life this was what HE believed would happen. I'm not lying when I say this sermon made me unable to sleep for a few nights and I had nightmares.
