Ultimately, IMHO, everything is about selfishness. But a prophet once said, "the greatness among you is the servant of all." When we realize that we are one with the universe, that its welfare is our welfare, we enter into a different phase of giving, knowing that the universe will give back. Sort of like planting flowers, knowing they're life will bless your own. True friendship, IMHO, is about recognizing the benefits of friendship, knowing that anything you give will ultimately bless your life. Friendship is about getting what you want, through giving. Somethings you simply cannot give to yourself, so if you give them to others, they "should" give them back. Such things might be companionship, loyalty, intimacy, etc. I love that part of the design, that we MUST have others in order to obtain the things we truly want. That we must give what we want most. Truth is the reaction to the presence of consciousness. |
