It's the disaster-waiting to-happen Rio Olympics 2016 thread! | |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 71909182 United Kingdom 08/03/2016 08:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The International Olympic Committee has been playing with a lake of fire, and it's everybody else that's going to get burned. You can feel it coming, can't you? One of these days there's going to be a catastrophe. The Olympics will be lucky to escape a large-scale disaster in Rio de Janeiro, and if it happens we'll all wonder why we didn't do more to stop IOC officials from dragging us all down into their suck. Half a million people will descend on Rio for the Summer Games, with a security force of just 85,000 to keep them safe from terrorists and roving bandits. Many of them are resentful underpaid law enforcement officers with out-of-gas cars and grounded helicopters in the midst of the country's worst economy since the 1930s, who were already trying to cope with one of the most seething, crime ridden cities on earth. In the last year state hospitals have lacked basic supplies, and medical facilities have cut hours. So yes, by all means, let's accept the IOC's confident declaration issued on Monday that "Rio is ready." And just hope that if there's real trouble, Mother Gaia or some invisible super hero Skyman will descend to save everyone should the hour turn darkest. [link to www.chicagotribune.com] |

Olympic Brazilian sailors earlier delivered the torch to the host city’s mayor after crossing Guanabara Bay near the end of a 20,000km (12,400-mile) journey through one of the world’s largest and most diverse countries. The flame landed at 9.15am local time while a few kilometres away 450 heavily armed police battled drug traffickers to carry out dozens of arrest orders in the Alemao slum, an area near the international airport and close to the main road to Olympic venues. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71909182 So would you if you had spent years and six figures training for it, and since you would only have so many years in peak condition. I hope it goes ok for everyone, it's not the athletes' fault the corrupt IOC awarded it to like a third world country (yeah, Brazil is supposedly not third world, but their construction standards might as well be). The bike path that collapsed along the ocean would put me off. |
ShawStraw User ID: 72556186 United States 08/04/2016 08:45 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | And so far, I think at least three countries have had their athletes robbed. Australia got robbed during a fire drill. A Chinese athlete got vomited on. When he left to clean up, his luggage got stolen. Spain's olympic sailing team were robbed at gunpoint. And have you seen what Brazil's hospitals look like? People on gurneys just left in hallways. A bunch of people in hospital beds all in the same room, like some old war movie or prison barracks. Then again, if you get infected by the turd water, I guess you'd have to brave the hospitals. |
