What is the difference between an old maid and a spinster? | |

Spinster was another word used to describe such a woman, but it also designated her job. When people used to live together as extended families under one roof, a maiden aunt made herself useful by spinning yarn or thread for making clothing. Before the industrial revolution, making clothes was a much more tedious, time-consuming process. A Spinster might also provide other vital household services such as babysitting, food preparation and nursing the sick. As far as the concern you express, i'm not sure. I married at 30, for love, and had two children, who now as adults give me great joy. The marriage was unhappy and ended, though. I don't think it's a good idea to marry or cohabit if not in love. But there are no guarantees. It's a leap of faith. In my case my happiness came from the children, not from the marriage. But it was very worth it. I think people can be happy and lead wonderful lives without a relationship or children. We're nearly all of us missing some big piece or other of the picture-perfect life. I found the trick is to have gratitude for what is going well. I think it's the secret to contentment. Hope that helps. Awake Dreamer (not a "Dreamer") |

Quoting: Jupiter24 OP, In "Old Maid" The Dealer, can be any player who shuffles the pack and deals them around, one at a time to each player, until all the cards have been handed out. Players do not need to have an equal number of cards. The goal is to form and discard pairs of cards, and not to be left with the odd card (a queen) at the end. *I've never played Spinster. AC just took the long way around saying "Lesbian Aunt". I had a wonderful Uncle Jack who was a "Confirmed Bachelor", cuz "Gay" was taboo. Same works for "Spinster". |
