Im getting my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow

Do all you can to prevent dry sockets! It's the hole where your tooth was.

It's not that bad. Go under if you can. If not..I took ibuprofen before I went in. Rest, ice on and off on your face,..in case of swelling or bruising. I had neither. Eat. Scrambled eggs, pudding or yogurt.. Smoothies are good too. Take the meds for pain if they give you any. I didn't need them. Had a slight headache but took Ibuprofen and was fine. Hubby got them done and in an hour he wanted a sub. Actually, he did eat a sub. LOL.. You will be ok. If you are awake, ask if you can listen to headphones and music. Helps you relax. Have someone drive you there and take you home as well. Best wishes

top or bottom? bottoms are much harder to get out, i was half conscious on the gas and it still felt like giving birth.

each time I was dragged out like someone beat me with a billy club. Groggy, mouth stuffed with cotton and bleeding. Usually needed massive pain killers. Took two days to feel normal.

Plan on being R&R for a full week to prevent dry sockets.

Have someone around at all times because the pain meds knock you out.

The first night is hell but gets better after that.

Soft foods are a must for the 1st week then slowly introduce other foods.

Keep the follow up appointment.

It's not so bad. The bottom ones are going to be a bitch though, and if your mouth gets traumatized you'll be in pain for a good week and a half 2 weeks.


Make sure you have tylenol and Ibuprophen when you run out of your good meds.

I Kept smoking right after my wisdom teeth were removed and never developed a dry socket.

Just lucky I guess.

double up on the painkillers at first. then cut the painkillers in half to only take what you need so you don't run out.

Set the alarm to go off IIRC 4 hours after you take the painkillers. Waking up from the pain killers worn off is hell on Earth.

oh yeah and food getting stuck in your tooth holes is kinda annoying.

if they prescribe you percoset, do not, I repeat do not double up on them if you have no pain killer tolerance.

depending on how much trauma and time is spent trying to get those suckers out you could be in a good ammount of pain if they don't give you good meds.

If they get the tooth and roots in one go on all your teeth, you shouldn't be in that much pain after, but if they have to leave the roots in in case your tooth breaks. prepare for a shitty week.

Halcyon dentistry is great also, not as good as being put under though.

All you need to remember is to bite down kinda hard on that gauze you'll have in your mouth, you want that blood to be thick and clot good so you don't get dry sockets.

Also, for 3 days don't fuck around, don't eat anything hard, don't break those blood clots in the socket. After 3 days your good. It doesn't hurt that bad. "that" being the key word.

I don't recommend getting put out unless you have severe dental anxiety.

Some people go under and do not wake up, of course it's a slim chance.


if you're awake when they do it, they'll numb you up real good so it won't hurt, all you'll feel is pressure, and a loud pop when the roots are freed from the socket.

Yeah, don't do it,at 40 you'll need them,when all the others are gone to shit.

If you drink alcohol and smoke, like me, ask for extra gauze pads.

Use your tongue to hold the pad in the hole while drinking and smoking.

It's a little hard to do, but it worked for me to prevent dry sockets, lol.

I had my bottom wisdom teeth surgically removed. They injected me with some type of knockout drug. I remember looking around the room and the surgeon injected my drugs. The last thing I remember him saying is "do you feel that?"

I woke up in a wheelchair and my family was taking me to the vehicle. It was the most euphoric high I've ever experienced.

Everything was great until I woke up from a nap. The pain was bad a few times. I tried taking the pain pills they prescribed, but they didn't work. The pills were called Meperghan Fortis which is Meperdine, a strong synthetic opioid. I took 2 of them one time and got very sick. They had to switch me to Lortab and those worked better for the pain.

The pain went away after about 2-3 weeks.

Don't Spit or wash your mouth out aggressively for the first few days,
So you don't unlodge the clot.

When you follow up find out which teeth came out perfectly and which if any were 'impacted' and had to be basically cut up and pulled out in pieces.

I was told there was residual root tissue left over from an impacted one that basically grew in to a cyst (fluid filled sac) that was causing infection. This happened like many years later.

The infection was mostly painless but it was inside the gums and any infection is fucking dangerous. There was pus oozing from the gum line in that spot when you pushed hard on it. It had to be removed - annoying and costed money and the dumb fuck retards didn't even diagnose it properly. It took an oral surgeon/specialist to diagnose it.

Probably quite rare but just be aware of it.

You wont be able to chew anything solid for about a week.

Agreed. Do not smoke, do not use straws. I'm not sure if the advice has changed when I got my wisdom teeth removed some 30 years ago. I believe swishing with salt water was recommended back then.

I just had mine taken out last September. They had become infected. I went in and had them out in no time. The doc sewed up the sockets so I didn't have to worry too much about dry socket.

Was a little sore the next day but not bad enough to even need an asperine.

By the second day I was eating whatever I wanted and had no pain.

Exactly! Do not become over zealous and flush out the blood clots from the holes in your mouth. You don't need to use your syringe for a few days. Be very cautious!

Dry sockets are absolutely horrible and the worst pain you can imagine!

If you get them the dentist will have to soak gauze in clove oil or something like that, and pack the fabric into your openings. They get gross and you need to do this again and again until the sockets close up.

Its not that bigger deal, the hype and nervousness beforehand are hard but its seriously not that bad , some of you people on this forum are such wusses
