Their so-called "base" was never really conservative in the first place. They're just a bunch of folks who dislike politicians and media who use big words and speak in sentences longer than 4 words. They love to think of themselves as tough guys and anti-intellectuals. To be blunt, they're not very bright, and they resent those who are smarter than they are. That's the source of their burning hatred. In their minds, liberals and the GOP establishment are pansies. They're in love with Trump because he talks in simple sentences and puts on a tough-guy act, hurling insults at the other candidates. He doesn't confuse them with detailed policies. They don't really even care what his policies are. Basically they just like pounding their fist on the bar and shouting "TRUMP!!!". Trump can stumble and stammer through debates without any clue about the topics, but as long as he calls another candidate a juvenile name, they're happy. They see themselves in Trump, ignorant and loud-mouthed. |
