Ar-15 sight advice.
So I have my first AR-15. I picked it up for a steal. It came with a bottom barrel red dot that I can't get sighted in for the life of me. The flip up peeps are more accurate at 50 yards than this crap Truglow red dot.

So I have been doing research. I think my use will generally be 0-300 yards. I really like the Trijicon ACOG's but at a starting price of $1200 it is a bit up there.

What sights do you have experience with? and why do you like or dislike them?

Find an Aimpoint Pro. 300-400 when you find a deal. They hold up to abuse and still hold zero. And a big plus is the insane battery life on them.

Forgot to say that the attachment system is pretty nice as well. No tools needed.

Just get a 1-6x scope like the Primary Arms or Vortex Strike Eagle.

None that i can think of. Ive used them on a Benelli semi auto 12ga, ak-47, and various ar-15's. I never felt I had to baby it and protect it.

Ill agree with the other poster about the Vortex stuff as well. I have zero experience with Primary Arms, but have heard good things.

Re: Ar-15 sight advice.
I've had them all. Currently rocking Aimpoint T2s on my high ends and Vortex Optics Sparc 2s on my low ends. I'd honestly recommend looking into the Vortex Sparc 2 or Sparc AR models at around $200-250. I dropped about $750 for my Aimpoint T2s with rail adapters. That's a shitload of money for the minimal difference between the two models.

Yeah, my friend had an older Sparc that was a POS that never held zero and died one day to never work again on his mossberg. Now that they have retooled and redesigned things their stuff is pretty damn nice now. Cool thing about them is they will fix my friends sparc gen 1 if he sends it in. So they have a great warranty.

Is the price of the Sparc comparable to the Aimpoint PRO's?

At 0 yards you don't need sights. Just saying...

I like the standard open frame sights. They are simple and reliable. This rifle would most likely be used at less than 100 yards. Keep in mind 3 feet per yard X 100 yards is 300 feet.

That is a fair amount of distance.

The open frame "iron sights" are just fine for this.

Lets keep things simple.

I shot various rifles with open frame sights for 40 years before trying the more exotic modern fancy sights.

I don't need them.

Re: Ar-15 sight advice.
as your dumbass just learned... you get what you pay for when it comes to optics. DO NOT go cheap. Use iron sights and save up $ to buy either an aimpoint or trijicon. That is it. there are no substitutes. And if its a 16" barrel or shorter do not put a 1-6 scope on it first. Save up more money and get a quick detach mount system (also not cheap, 200 bucks) to use that later on if neeeded. But an AR platform is not worth using a scope on. Just get a 3 or 6x magnifier for your red dot.. Trust me on this, or get ready to burn through more $ on crap.

Luckily the truglow crap red dot was a throw in. I didn't spend a fortune on the rifle either. It's an "introductory AR that came with a quad rail and a foregrip. It's the DPMS oracle in 5.56 $600 and i bought it from a friend who only put a few rounds through it. No rattle and seems to be well built. So far everyone is giving great advice and I hope you all keep it going.

Iron sights are sufficient most of the time. Plus, the more you put on a rifle the heavier that bitch gets. Lol

Its fun to go to a gun show and fondle all the mall ninja setups. Some feel like they weigh twice of what my SPR build!

Yep, at the range and with a human sized target, my iron flip up sights do just fine up to about 300 yards. Spend the money on optics for a long gun for when you really want to reach out and touch something.

Oh yeah?

Eotech, Trijicon, Aimpoint are LE/Military red dot options.

What is just as good as those for half the price? Nothing.

Vortex works fine for a weekend warrior with an Oracle, as does Primary Arms, but those are not "just as good".

The sights that the gun has are fine for close or medium range shooting. They won't come loose or fall off or have a dead battery right when you need them, either.
Fancy sights can slow down your field stripping and cleaning, too.
I hate all that junk on a gun, except a sling and a bipod.
The extra cash would be better spent on some more mags, ammo or even a nice sidearm.

Trijicon MRO/Aimpoint...anything/Vortex

My next one is going to be an MRO large field of view at an Aimpoint T2 weight but $300 less.

But, at the price point you bought the gun I'd just go with the $200 vortex. Vortex has lifetime no questions asked warranty.
