The stars are beautiful here. It is really a whole different set of them than you get down there. The big dipper is huge and obvious all winter long, thus the flag. But yeah, all of the darkness makes it a great place for gazers. Really, Alaska is great for about any damn thing... except sunbathing and swimming. |

That reminds me of several years ago, when I saw my first aurora. It was so cool, then, it kept happening half the time I had my scope out, and I actually got tired of them since they ruined seeing. Now I haven't seen them for a long time and can't wait. Enjoy the steaks and booze! Reality is interesting enough. |

Quoting: Dr. Au fait 163242I always have problems cooking steak or chicken or anything else in the dark outside. Just seems like they come off the grill raw or burned and mostly burned. And yes, Alaska is a special place. They came off once slightly raw. After tasting a few bloodier bites, I took them back and cooked them more thoroughly... Then the shit was wonderful. I use lots of Angry Cock Sauce, or Sriacha or whatever it is... The red sauce from asian restaurants.... |
