And on to the topic at hand: when whatever happens...finally happens there won't be much people around left. Which means the middle class mentality and ideal/lifestyle will be gone. No way in hell will any figment of any imagination of "middle class" be anywhere near thought.

Man vs man will go on for a while until a man can become greater than all the tech in the world...which won't be anytime soon.

I can promise you this. The American war machine will be gone within 5-10 years max. Our overseas contractors will be the first to get cut loose.

28, live at home, have some college, been unemployed a few years, can't find work.

Most of those I personally know around my age have a bachelor's degree, one with a master's and all are underemployed or unemployed, and all live at home with their parents because they don't have the sufficient income to move out, due to shit wages and/or massive college debt.

Re: 28-35 year olds.. whats your situation
28. Just bought my first home about a year ago. I have a great job(for my age/area) ~50k + benefits + moonlighting, which is good for about 5 - 10 k per year.

I am dealing with paying back student loans on a degree I will never use.

College is a huge scam...I learned it's best to figure out what you want to do and go to tech school if appropriate. Get certificates and other training that is available. If you don't know what you want to do, get a job, any job, and learn everything you can from it. Don't be afraid to take a dirty job like farm work, or even fast food.

I am enjoying the bachelor's life, but I am searching for the right woman with whom to start my family.

For Christ's sake, you idiots worry about the end of the world all day, so much that you dont even really live. Find a girl start a family. Get a good job or better yet learn a trade open a bussiness be your own boss. When the endcomes you wont be able to do anything about it. Smoke weed at night hang with your family and try to be happy!

Re: 28-35 year olds.. whats your situation
Hope it is ok to speak for my 32 year old daughter who lives in my home.

As I said she is 32 years old.
She has an eight year old daughter and is divorced.
She lives in a 2 bedroom apartment that is within my home but separated.
She pays me very close to going rate for the apartment (it's probably worth an extra $100.00 per month).
She pays me for her share of the utilities monthly.
She makes 60K per year + child support and could live in her own home if she wanted. Instead she saves her extra money and also enjoys a few trips with her daughter yearly. Nice life for her and my grandaughter.
I never go into her apartment uninvited. It's her space. We don't have meals together....only every once in a while when I make a dinner that is her favorite and I invite her.

Same as OP she does it for me. I purchased my home a little late in life and I could not make the mortgage payment without her rent and it is considered an in-law apartment so I cannot rent to non-relatives unless I did it on the sly. I wouldn't do that if I wanted to be illegal because I do not want to rent to a stranger that may trash the place. We have a nice deal going...she gets to use the yard and pool as her own and we are here to support each other. It's definitely a two way street.

She is fast becoming a person who has concern for the future and has a boyfriend (not live in) who is somewhat in to prepping.

36.

Married, 2 kids. Mortgage and 2 vehicles. Wife is a therapist (ot) with a master's. I've worked construction the last 10 years and have a master electrical license. I just got a job 10 blocks from my house working maintenance at a health facility.

Life with the wife is good but I'm pulling out my hair at this job. If things weren't so slow I'd get a contractors license and be my own boss. That and we get health insurance from my job not hers. So we'll see where things go.

holy shit thought this thread would die..

My situation is kinda weird.. I actually dont have to live at my parents house.. I make really good money (200k) but the thing is I want to own this house one day.. PLUS i dont want them to loose everything.. so its a win win.

I also plan on never having kids, or getting married..

I have a long term GF and we are both fine with non governmental contracts (marriage)
and we are both in agreement of no kids..

shes 30 and makes 70k..

who knows what the future will be like.

Re: 28-35 year olds.. whats your situation
sorry posting from a throw away...

I am 33..

Currently trying to strategize for the future.

I am pretty sure shits going to topple over in my life time, and probably in the near future.

wether is be social unrest/martial law
Collapse of the Currency worldwide
or even some natural or un natural disaster like yellowstone blowing or ww3 nuclear war.

lots of doom and gloom..

on the other hand I am also hopeful for new energies, and hopefully people on the right side of history who allow the use of life saving medications and what not..

but for the time being I would rather prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

I have never done stock market stuff.. I just dont trust it, and Im pretty sure we will see it take a dump before the elections.

I guess Im trying to figure out what people around my age are doing..
where am I at compared to my generation.

Right now I own a house in mountain area with fresh water source, but I dont live there. Its a "vacation" home or safe place. I got an insanely good deal on it and I instantly Gained over 100k in equity (it was a short sale And i got really lucky)

I have many many firearms, alot of ammo, 3 years supply food,
I chose to invest in these things years ago for fear of the future.

Heres where some people might think im lame but i dont care.

i grew up with an amazing family. I am very close to my parents.. The house I was born in is still the house im in today. Yes.. I live at home.
(even though I own a home elsewhere and can buy another now)
I also have an apartment that I use to crash it when Im working (I work an hour from home), however I am giving that place up.

now, Why do I live at home? am I weird? No, Well Yes, but NO

The house is BIG. its an amazing home. My dad built it, it has a big yard. and its in a very nice, quiet, safe area. My parents are still paying a mortgage on it, it should have been paid off but they pulled money out for a business move that went bad, so now they are stuck in their mid 60s with a mortgage. I am helping them out with that, and I would LOVE to live here forever. I figure I would never in my life be able to afford a home like this, So I might as well just stay and eventually title it over to myself. Also, My parents are super cool, and I love having people around.

My girlfriend also lives with me.

so guys I dont know why im writing this, Im just wondering what others like me are doing with their lives.

We live in a strange world and 30 years ago, when our parents were our age things were different.
 Quoting: THEGHOST 72236466

My first thought is don't be sidelined in life because of fears of Doom. There were such threats in all past generations, and in fact doom situations have wiped out civilizations of the past. Live your life in the now, enjoy the beauty of this world, turn to relationships, to love, don't deny yourself life because of some assholes with an agenda.

I'm a 30 something with a young family and a fear of God. That's my situation. I live for the now and I thank God for all that he's given me because my body belongs to him, my soul belongs to him and all my experiences are thanks to his grace. I truly believe he put me here and all other people to live, love and learn. That should be all our situations no matter the age, no matter the era. If it all ended tomorrow I would want to know that I enjoyed my life and that I was a good man.

Re: 28-35 year olds.. whats your situation
I am 33, and we are expecting our first baby. We both hold professional positions, and I am currently trying to work out how to be a mom and an employee after delivery. Part time or working at home would be okay. I make more money than he does, so it's a good thing we did not buy a house that requires both incomes.

If you are married and have not yet purchased a house, please only buy a house that one salary will cover. I only know this because my dad drilled financial principles into my head for years. I have friends that are heartbroken over not spending as much time as they would like with their babies because they have to work full time.

When we were first married my husband moved into my house that I purchased on my own. Then we moved, but not to a bigger place. We made a decent amount on the house and purchased one that was about the same square footage. My house was pretty old and was constantly needing expensive repairs and it had an impossibly huge yard, and we were tired of all that, so we went for a newer house with a much smaller yard.

We invest, and neither of us are experts, but we do okay. We don't use credit cards for anything we can't pay off in one month. This means we do without certain things until we can afford them, and we drive used cars. There are thousands of dollars of things I am tempted to buy for the baby, and it has been hard not buying all the latest and greatest baby things.

We allow ourselves to spend a lot on vacations and recreation, but not more than we can afford. We decided that would be our splurge area.

Re: 28-35 year olds.. whats your situation
I'm 26 and bought my home 3 years ago. I've been renting out rooms to help pay the mortgage. I work in IT and have a side-business doing IT for local companies.

My girlfriend and I have been dating for the last 3 years. We have the most solid relationship I've ever experienced, yet we keep our finances separate. She encourages me to date her friends and helps me get ready for dates; she wants to have a successful polyamorous relationship with the two of us at the core.

I'm not sure what to do about marriage, family, children, or tradition. In the meantime I've asked her Dad if I could marry his daughter, he approved, I proposed, and she's accepted, but we don't know if we'll get married or stay permanently engaged. I'd like to have children and a family, but she is not physically ready to have kids nor does she want any yet. We joke about me finding another partner to have children with.

We picked up a camp trailer that we'll be fitting with solar, hand tools, water filtration, and other camping/survival gear. I'd eventually like to settle down somewhere, but for now traveling, paying off debts, building sustainable systems, and acquiring liquifiable assets seem like the best options.

Does anyone else have other suggestions?

35, live in Idaho. High school dropout with a service job which pays OK. Spouse works in the underground economy and brings in enough. We own a house and a rental. Got an RV and older boat. Our cars are all 10+ years old and paid for.

We do all right by avoiding goobmit for the most part. We refuse to buy health insurance, which means we have an extra $500 kicking around every month to do the things we enjoy. If we played by the rules, we'd be doing a lot worse.

30 years old, own a pretty successful business in New England area, almost have my house paid off. Been working nearly a thousand hours each year on this house for the past 4 years it's in an idyllic location at the end of a peninsula with water (a small lake) surrounding it on 3 sides.

I'm a partner in a pretty successful business in New England that I started with my brother when I was 25. I make more then I can justify spending and I really only spend money on the house and yard with a few vacations here and there these days. After household and living expenses, vacations and taxes I usually end up saving about $80,000 each year which I think I'm saving up to buy a large plot of land and eventually build a Japanese water garden/park as a side hobby.

34 living in California. My job is decent but my pay sucks. I live with 2 roommates in a 3 bedroom house. I have guns & ammo but not a food stockpile. My parents have a lot of food stored at their house across town. I hang out with my friends a lot and am generally a positive person living day to day and paycheck to paycheck. I was in a long relationship, nearly married but we broke up and she moved back east with her son.
