Yeah, well, I had an unpaid student loan in England, and then they charged me here in Canada by means of hospital bills. I just connected the dots since Canada is under one commonwealth.

If your debt is with an italian or russian mob, then yeah you're dead. If its student loans, credit cards or whatever you just collect interest, get bad credit and probably won't be able to purchase your own house until you resolve your issue

Waited for my tax return and payed a lawyer 750 bucks with it. He walked me through the entire process.

Found a gutted out mobile home for $500, paid $450 to have it moved. ( A friend offered a place to have it set up. All I have to do is help around the property like cut grass). I took the money I made that year and rebuilt it with new stuff. I have all oak cabinets in the kitchen, really nice bathroom. Two cozy bedrooms and a small computer room. It cost me about $5000 to make it like new. It was a LOT of work, even after hours of my normal work. But I am debt free! Now I am looking for 5 or so acres for my own.

Yes, I can promise that if you unplug from 'this' type of shit and stop listening to the news. Focus on getting out more and maybe picking up a better job by looking around you'll be able to manage it.

Incidentally, 33k isn't much if you consider that you bought something you invested into for a life time. Or taking another approach, 33k will net you an EXTRA million dollars in salary (on average), versus not having that bit of paper. It is an important step in understanding the value of education to a person. In bad or good times, it is about the only thing you can never have taken away. Education, and the experience you pick up. Those two things are about the only two things a person actually owns.

There are quite a few allowances for what you get to keep, and the trustee was rather lenient. I got to keep all of my vehicles ( you are allowed like $3000 per wife/husband on your vehicles, and around like $6000 for household items. And a few other things you are allowed to keep.

The house of course went back, but I was kinda glad to let them have it ( it had a rotten foundation).
