Tried the just leaked KFC recipe tonight

You can find used ones on ebay, but you could probably buy a new one somewhere. There is more than one manufacturer.

If this thread isn't already dead, I'd like to ask everyone if anyone knows of a batter fried chicken restaurant in any part of the US, or anywhere. Batter fried similar to dipped in a batter and fried cod, like fish and chips?

I heard you have to use a pressure cooker with the oil to get them just right.

You are right on the MSG - that is the hidden 12th spice. Even so, as you have seen, the cooking method is where the secret is. You need a pressure fryer to make that delicacy.

It seems a bit 1980's douchey...but still cool to see. With the help available today at that wage, I imagine there is not a lot of worker input into the process. It has to be - take chicken from here to there. Put in there and push button. When it beeps, put it on the hopper to feed people. In this case, a robot and a good robot technician could take care of the whole operation. No restrooms - that is overhead.

Everything was better back when everybody used shortening.

You must have never had McDonalds fries before the health Nazi's took their Crisco away.

Edit to say I confused Crisco with Lard.

It was Lard that made all food great back in the day.

oh f yes...They would use bacon grease then if they had any idea how popular bacon would be.

Lard is good for you. The people of the 19th century ate a lot of pigfat. They were skinny and tough and settled the west against all odds.
The body needs fat. When it gets it regularly it doesn't store any. Take it away and it will store all it can.
Some cholesterol is very good for you. The human brain is mostly fat. The lard also lubricates your nervous system and shines up your hair.

The old way is best. MmmmMM.

Modern Americans are fat due to processed sugars and grains.

i didn't read the recipe but i'm going to guess it's the same story as 'Chinese' chicken, MSG makes everything taste better.

KFC is fried under pressure, so there is very little chance of getting it right at home without a pressure cooker...
