I live in a heavily buddhist country, and like all the other religions of men, its a money grabbing, soul destroying parody of Truth. Well meaning lay people are used to fill the coffers, put backsides on seats and do good works to get to nirvana/heaven. meanwhile the clergy in rule are corrupt and decitful and have been that way ever since the first one to break away from hinduism, although many latter buhhidst sects incorporated the hindu worldview/universality back into their cosmology, but with buhhdas at the top of the chain followed by gods then demons etc. And yes idolatry is such a common theme in buhhidism that the daoists hold them in very low esteem for their convoluted acceptance of anything that will allow buhhidism to gain traction in the political realms on earth.

Well basically you can boil it down to the theology involved, is it a God-made religion or a man made religion?

Buddhists seek to reach enlightenment through their own efforts and therefore in effect, save themselves. Jesus taught that only God can save us.
 Quoting: furPete'sSake

But the bible also says we will be judged by our works, that faith without works is dead, and that we will know another follow of Christ by his works..... so I see a core connection there.

If you read the passage on page 26 here: [link to bibleprobe.com]

You'll read it states to leave the old way of Buddhism, and follow Christ. So yes, Buddhist of today are wrong by their own doctrine.... just as are Jews today... but in their time before Christ they were right I feel.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72010775

Jesus said that our "work" is to believe and our works are also the fruit of the Spirit after we believe.
Other works are worthless.
 Quoting: furPete'sSake

And the "Fruit of the Spirit"

Galatians 5:22-23New International Version (NIV)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Most essentially, Buddhism has nothing to do with God, but a state of unresisting acceptance to the circumstances of life.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43011010

Yeah, after some years of ascribing to those tenets..or rather, trying to and failing miserably, I have just learned to say "fuck that shit", I'm not a Buddhist, and am accepting the fact that I don't accept evil shit without at least bitching about it.

seriously. I don't WANT to accept everything if it means accepting evil, either. And I don't want "peace of mind" or "enlightenment" if it means me being okay with everything inside and not giving a shit if others are suffering, as long as I've "got mine". No thanks, that's not my attitude.

I have one that feels and expresses, and doesn't accept what is simply unacceptable.

but nothing against G zeus, Joshua, Yeshua, Buddha, or whatever he wants to call himself.

It's just that whole do unto others thing? Sometimes lets too many evil people do evil things to innocents. And I can't be accepting or zen or forgiving about the worst of atrocities, like when innocent children are harmed.

Re: Was Jesus a Buddhist? How am I just finding this out???
Any one who say Buddhism is a false religion has no understanding of what its about. Many Bible thumping Christians think it's a false religion and have no idea it's never really bean consider a religion bit a way of life. Every Zen moment counts and do your best in the name of Buddha & Christ towards the light of universal love and God.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71057416

Well if you take out the concept that you, or man, is going to reach "enlightenment" by your own endeavors and become a god or one with God, by doing so, fine.

If it's a philosophy and not a religion then there is no problem. Both it and some aspects of Hindu belief have more to do with quantum physics than it does with religion if you really study it.

I believe that the universe is simply a projection of the Divine Consciousness. Thought, divine thought, is light and the basis of our reality.

Re: Was Jesus a Buddhist? How am I just finding this out???
SO....... after a weekend of youtube, Buddhist sites, papers......

It seems the missing 18years of Jesus were spent with Buddhist's, oddly enough but makes sense.

Yet, learning that Budda's prophecy foretold the coming of Christ <> than aren't all Buddhist in the wrong for continuing to worship his idols?

Makes a damn lot of sense to us, and Jesus's teaching and background were very close if not simply translated but the same to the teachings of Budda..... HOW ARE WE JUST NOW HEARING OF THIS?

Insight is greatful
