I'm still banging metal , it's up to the listeners to discover metal and rock music. The music industry and media all work together to promote rap, hip hop, pop music which in my opinion makes me feel stupid when I hear it.

I think most people tend to like whatever they're familiar with -- so, whatever they hear most often. Most people just aren't that refined in what they like or even know what they like. And then if they don't make an effort to search out other stuff, which I don't think most people do, they don't even know what's out there and what there is to like. The majority of US media is owned by something like 6 companies, so they have a stranglehold on most things and the most money to blitz the market and social media.
