Bic lighters.

Bolts of material, like canvas, nylon, silk, terry, jersey, denim.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67153621

One can buy cheaper lighters in 10 packs.
Those for trading.

I don't smoke but I need to go buy lighters.

Why elastic? Because younwont be able to find it anywhere, and its handy for so many things. Like duct tape. Bungee cords.

Nylon thread. Copper wire
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67153621

When buying nylon or polyester thread get bonded thread.

Black is probably best for the widest use.

At least E thread.
Go with F if possible as a minimum size.

You can buy a 50 lb block of plain salt at any feed store for about $5. Salt has been used for trade since ancient times.

There are many scenarios where neither Cash nor Precious Metals would become useable or appropriate in an economic collapse or society destabilization.

You would need to be very discrete so as to not invite attack.
Plus have friends next door where you're in a local militia.
Understood.

Omg i nearly forgot!...

Bug repellent

Mosquito netting

Chicken wire

Screen material.

The chicken wire and screen material are for when the hippies are trying to grow lettuce and berries and learn the hard way that unless u have them in boxes, youll never see a single head of ur precious kale happen before the call of the wild dashes ur plans.

That depends on how badly I wanted some coffee and a cigarette. The value of an item will depend on what one is willing to give up to obtain it.

Good point. Skills also have great value. A doctor, for example, could have their life paid for in a needy community of people.

Re: What will use for trading?
Im thinking only in terms of their desirability vs scarcity. So you dont smoke. Theyre highly tradeable. Especially beacuse they cannot get wet. Anything that cant get wet, cant get too hot or too cold, that cant be exposed to light like food oils... will prolly trade for more im thinking.

But i could be wrong.

Or things like perishables. You might have some fresh vegetables that would have a high value. But if you place too high a value on them, you won't be able to trade them off before they spoil.

Most perishables can be dehydrated easily. Even kale coukd concievably be turned into kale powder or kale chips.
