Re: Flat Earth believers
Just a bunch of globe earth shills licking each other's assholes on this thread. For anyone truly interested in researching flat earth, this is one of the worst places you can do it. GLP is totally controlled and you will be gang stalked by moderators and their cohorts. Go to YouTube and do your research there. You can at least get both sides of the argument there. Here you will only get globe supports. Flat earthers get banned.

On that same note...anybody interested in joining the tooth fairy on his nightly ventures throughout the world gathering teeth and dropping off money can likewise go to youtube.

Thanks...this message is brought to you by the government shill dicknose I quoted.

But you did that first, so it is kinda tit for tat. I really don't care to engage in it, but you're making a good deal of assumptions about people and that isn't very conducive to increased understanding, nor for making valid points.

As I have said on a few other threads, there are some problems with flat earth, but there are serious problems with a lot of the heliocentric things we are told to simply believe.

The curvature that would have to exist on a globe the size the earth is supposed to be isn't evident anywhere. That's 8 inches per mile squared, so over ten miles it's about 66 feet.

I saw your list in another post, and some of those are some problems with the flat earth theory. However, a planet crossing in front of the sun has no direct relation to flat or helio. And Erastothenes (or however you spell it) proof with sticks and shadows doesn't bear out either when subjected to the FE model of the sun orbiting the circumference on a central point.

And one issue that is apparently on your side of the topic is the southern stars rotating the opposite direction. That bothers me a lot. And I can't personally speak to it as I have never been, and have no plans to go, south of the equator. Unless of course there is something additional that isn't brought forward in the flat earth models as of yet. But yes, it is an issue.

Honestly, while there are some problems with the FE theory that aren't readily addressed, like the southern constellations you mentioned, the problems with the heliocentric theory and spherical earth are not addressed either. Like the lack of curvature, and the insane ascription of a 1/4000th of a degree of tilt being responsible for 100 degree temperature variances on the surface of the earth in the seasons.

I'd like to know why you think Russia (USSR at the time) and the US threw tons of nuclear missiles up in the late fifties and early sixties and called the projects Operation Fishbowl and Starfish? It's readily documented that they did. Why would they do this after Byrd's report? Just to spend a lot of money? And how do all these countries, warring over stupid things like oil, agree to leave the Antarctic entirely off limits when it is reported to be absolutely rich with natural resources? And what about NASA and their inability to provide any actual(non-photoshop) footage of the earth spinning? Do you just shrug that off?

And I still want to know why people get so terrifically hostile at the very mention of possibly not living on a globe?

That wasn't my reaction. I thought, "You're kidding, right? Seriously? People think that?" But it didn't make me angry. We've been lied to so much, this isn't really anything different to look into and make up your own mind about.

the thing is for me, either way it makes absolutely no difference at all whether its a globe or flat..either way doesn't prove or disprove anything the bible says

so in that sense it's really just a distraction for so many people, meanwhile many other conspiracies going on(which are actually relevant to peoples lives) are being ignored..as well as the fact that this flat earth "theory" is being tied to genuine conspiracies and making conspiracy theorist look like idiots who will believe anything

again either way makes no difference to how you will live your life, if you really sincerly believe the earth is flat then get on a boat (like millions of others have in the past) and drive the thing to the edge of the earth..i guarantee you if you ever found that edge, take a photo and proved it's flat you will be the most famous person who has ever lived.

But that exact argument is what the FE sites purport. With a possible exception being Eric Dubay who seems to be the Alex Jones of FE.

Why do you think it is an attempt to overthrow "legitimate" conspiracies?

The documents don't lie and they exist. There are a plethora of conspiracies at play. The same with a lot of the things used as FE proofs. There is evidence that specifically negates helio as we are taught. Mathematics doesn't negate actual observation.

Saying people are stupid isn't proof. That is opinion, and everyone has one, whether it is right or wrong. But differing opinions don't automatically convert to a) is smart and b) is stupid.

I mean simply that where we live and what we live upon isn't changed by equations that few people can actually do, and the ones who can do those equations have fudge factors built right in and very little visible proof for those factors. The dominant proof isn't in the math on a sheet of paper, which is not something that can actually fit true scientific method. Observable, and repeatable. The most simplistic and (should be) observable equation for the purported curvature of the sphere of earth doesn't bear out to observation. I've seen helio and FE both use refraction of light to substantiate their opinions on why this is the case.

Of course there are pollutants and vapors in the near atmosphere that prevent telescopes from seeing from LA to Mt Everest. And then helio supporters suggest mirages are the reason for people being able to see from Michigan to Chicago.

Both use refraction as their proof. And refraction is a real thing dependent upon humidity, wind, intensity of light and reflective surfaces intervening. And it cuts both ways in the discussion.

And I'm sorry, but I don't think the aliens reported above are intent on anything good for humanity. They'll "take care of us" in the country vernacular.

Re: Flat Earth believers
Why are people so hostile about the flat earth theory?

It's no different from being lied to about everything else. Vaccines are good for you. GMO's have no negative potential health consequences. Lincoln fought the Civil War to free the slaves. Kennedy was killed by a lone communist gunman. The War on Terror will defeat terrorism. The war on drugs will stop drug abuse. Hillary is in perfect health, and on and on and on.

NASA definitely, repeatedly, constantly lies. So it begs the question why? They get plenty of black op funding through all the drug dealings made by the CIA and the insider trading that Congress refuses to pass laws against. They don't need to get a few more billion from NASA every year. But NASA is the go to for all things space, even though they lie.

As to the OP's question, it looks like whatever the "dome" is made of is resistant to nukes. Both Russia and the US threw up a bunch of nukes in the late 50's and very early 60's. I(Operation Fish Bowl and Operation Star Fish, IIRC) A lot of people believe they were trying to crack the dome. Some people believe this really weird yellow glass like stone found in chunks somewhere in Africa (I want to say Libya) may be pieces of the dome. As far as I have seen, no one has postulated exactly what it might be comprised of, but just about it's existence.

Here is a video about 2 large amateur rockets hitting the dome. It's roughly 4 and a half minutes long. If you think it's all crap, okay. I just see a lot of issues with helio and I also see some issues with flat. I simply do not believe NASA at all.

 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

It frightens them. Anything that really challenges someone's most basic ideas of reality is scary to most people. They can't consider it just as an idea, an intellectual challenge. A possibility. they take a personal affront about it that I find ridiculous. I think the flat earth arguments are really interesting and far more coherent than I would have expected. Many of them actually make sense on a basic level and that's why they need to be answered. Just insulting people isn't an answer and it doesn't enlighten anyone. Personally, I'm willing to consider just about anything.

I want an unchained brain.

When you fly from Australia to the east coast of the USA, you stopover in India and in the UK..... WHY?

Why fly alllll the way up north, then back down again?

It only makes sense on a flat earth, where the flight path is a straight line then....

Do your own research
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68220387

Oh really? It's a straight line?

I don't know what a flat brainer thinks what a straight line is - but I can assure you Australia - India - Uk - east coast of USA is not a straight line on a flat earth.

Take a flight from Sydney to Santiago de Chile.

Takes 12 hours something on a globe and would take almost 30 hours on a flat earth.

The difference is: A flat brainer would be about 17 hours late to pick you up at the airport.

And I haven't left our world so I can't be as certain as others as to what it looks like from afar.
 Quoting: Nameless 8533752

You don't have to leave earth to recognise that it's a globe.

* The length of the shadow at noon on different latitudes prove the earth is a globe - the length of the shadows don't match a flat earth.
* Flight times of flights within the southern hemisphere prove the earth is a globe - these flight times are not possible on a flat earth.
* The central paths of solar eclipses matches with a globe earth - to produce these paths on a flat earth sun and moon have to jump around in the sky like rabbits.
* The observability of planets passing in front of the sun simultaneously from the southern and northern hemisphere is only possible on a globe earth - on a flat earth it's either visible north or south of the equator, not on both sides simultaneously. Btw. these events were used to calculate the distance earth-sun, look up Edmond Halley.
* Star trails around the South Celestial Pole are only possible on a globe earth - on a flat earth there is no SPC though tens of thousands of photos of this exist.

And the list goes on.

.

I am being sincere. I don't get all the anger on here about certain topics like FE, when people are supposed to be on a conspiracy site.

Actually, I don't get angry if anyone suggests the planet is any other shape than what I think it is. I'm interested in what others have to say, being alive on this plane of existence is supposed to be a learning experience and I don't pretend to have all the answers. So I try to understand all perspectives. Some are truly fascinating.

Those that have all the answers and shut down free thought...worry me.

Besides ME...FE really unhinges a lot of people. It's kind of scary.

Anyway, this thread is getting too hostile. Take care.

The bible became more real to me after considering the earth was flat. Why did the Vatican change the Sabbath to Sunday? Christmas is not the Messiah's true birthday but it's a celebration related to the winter solstice. They worship sol invictus and disguise it as Christianity.

Took a quick look at this guy Cass Sunstein , well I don't think I will be taking any advice from someone who advises Obama and Cameron for a start.

You said in your post that you have studied Astronomy since you were a kid, well as a mere women and lay person in this area, you explain to me why we have no pictures of Earth,
why we have no HD pictures of the Moon and dark side, why we have no pictures of inside the Earth/ Bottom of the Oceans.

Why is NASA so busy spending the American tax payers money on alleged trips to Mars and Venus, (all of the so called images are composites photoshops) when hey tell us nothing about the nearest satellite to Earth namely the Moon.

The lack of images of the Earth point to one or two scenarios;
A The Earth is a lot bigger than they are telling us.
B They are hiding something about this planet
C The Earth is flat.

I am not a Flat Earth believer but I have an open mind and I am investigating the theory so far, only a fool walks around with blinkered eyes.

ad hominem

adj.
Appealing to personal considerations rather than to logic or reason: Debaters should avoid ad hominem arguments that question their opponents' motives.

Without observable provocation, you attacked what you know to be a cherished and sacred book. So...yes, it was ad hominem.

 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

And these things are?

I've already told you a few of those. Summation, lack of curvature, temperature variance on the surface, NASA and their complete BS. Those are dominant for me.

The curvature that would have to exist on a globe the size the earth is supposed to be isn't evident anywhere. That's 8 inches per mile squared, so over ten miles it's about 66
 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

And your point is?

There is no curve that can be ascribed to the size of the sphere we are supposed to be upon in the helio model.

I saw your list in another post, and some of those are some problems with the flat earth theory. However, a planet crossing in front of the sun has no direct relation to flat or helio.
 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]

And Erastothenes (or however you spell it) proof with sticks and shadows doesn't bear out either when subjected to the FE model of the sun orbiting the circumference on a central point.
 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

Take three people living on different latitudes, let's say 50° N, 25° N and 30° S, and let them measure the shadow of a 1 meter stick. Then calculate the distance to the sun on a flat earth. Surprise: You will get three different results.

You are not taking into account the FE model of the sun moving around a central point in a circle.

... and the insane ascription of a 1/4000th of a degree of tilt being responsible for 100 degree temperature variances on the surface of the earth in the seasons.
 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

How do you come up with that number?
Earth axis is tilted by 23°27'

By crunching all the numbers given to us by the high priests of helio -NASA- and calculating the distances to the earth in ratio to the position of earth from the sun at the various times of the year with temperatures from our location.

 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

Off topic.

No, it is not off topic. You don't just throw millions of dollars at the sky for no reason. This reflexes back to the OP's query about the dome. On topic.

And how do all these countries, warring over stupid things like oil, agree to leave the Antarctic entirely off limits when it is reported to be absolutely rich with natural resources?
 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

Did you read the Antarctica treaties? You should do it, instead of parroting what others tell you.

Yes, and here is the link:
[link to www.nsf.gov]

And what about NASA and their inability to provide any actual(non-photoshop) footage of the earth spinning? Do you just shrug that off?
 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

And you have proof that this footage is photoshopped?

Surely you can find that information just as easily as I did. NASA artists themselves say it is photoshop. NASA says it is CGI. Yes, you have to look, but they say so.

And I still want to know why people get so terrifically hostile at the very mention of possibly not living on a globe?
 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

Terrifically hostile?
I don't think that it is "terrifically hostile" to expose people as idiots when they are idiots. (May be it's "terrifically hostile" for them to be exposed as idiots.)

Calling people idiots and retards, is cordial? Assuming you yourself are the epitome of intellect and logic and anyone who questions your personal sacred cow is "an idiot" isn't the heighth of intellectual discourse.

That wasn't my reaction. I thought, "You're kidding, right? Seriously? People think that?" But it didn't make me angry.
 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

Nice for you.

Yes, sure. I can check what I was taught without feeling threatened or stupid about checking it.

We've been lied to so much, this isn't really anything different to look into and make up your own mind about.
 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

Yep, the old Greek lied to you, thousands of astronomers in the past four centuries lied to you, tens of thousands of amateur astronomers around the world lie to you.

Are you a little paranoid?

No, but thanks for asking. Assuming that a theory is a government campaign to discredit all other investigation is more the definition of paranoia. Remember that the CIA coined the term conspiracy theory.

I'm not assuming that amateur astronomers are lying, but if you start with a faulty premise, your resultant conclusions are going to also be faulty. As for controlled science, Like NASA and NOAA and literally purchased collegiate professorships and research board seats, I only believe what is logical, reasonable and demonstrable. Helio just keeps obfuscating things and calling theory fact. For instance, the Sun has gotten further and further from the Earth since the beginning of the helio theory. The moon has also gotten further and further from the Earth. Magic math with gigantic numbers doesn't necessitate correct deductions.

"Facts" like "truths" exist independently of our perception and are not open to debate. That's what makes them facts: they are the same for you Or me. or my kids or your kids.

The picture may not be complete (we may not have all the facts). But they are out there waiting to be discovered and catalogued.

I can believe I can breathe seawater with my lungs and survive more than a few minutes: but I cannot. FACT.

I can believe in dragons and fairies, magic and spells; but If I cannot produce one they do not exist. FACT.

Denying physically verifiable facts is not just having a "different opinion" : Some ideas are provably wrong. (incorrect).

If nothing is wrong (incorrect). there can be no truth.

Truth is the basis for interaction in human society: If there is no "truth"; then every mans opinion is valid (true), what do I need any body else for? I can just carry around my own belief system in my own (little, personal) world. No one can challenge me.

And I still want to know why people get so terrifically hostile at the very mention of possibly not living on a globe?

Terrifically hostile?
I don't think that it is "terrifically hostile" to expose people as idiots when they are idiots. (May be it's "terrifically hostile" for them to be exposed as idiots.)

Calling people idiots and retards, is cordial? Assuming you yourself are the epitome of intellect and logic and anyone who questions your personal sacred cow is "an idiot" isn't the heighth of intellectual discourse.

That wasn't my reaction. I thought, "You're kidding, right? Seriously? People think that?" But it didn't make me angry.
