sacred energy User ID: 1244723 Australia 09/07/2016 11:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Under the new decision, humpback populations in the Arabian Sea, Cape Verde Islands/Northwest Africa, western north Pacific, and Central America remain listed as endangered. The Mexico population, which feeds off California, the Pacific Northwest, and Alaska, has been downlisted to threatened. NOAA had hoped it was sufficiently recovered to remove from the list, but discovered that there are only about 3200 animals in this population, about half of what scientists thought. I wonder why that area? Fukushima perhaps ? NOAA, however, says that all humpbacks—even those removed from the list—are safe because of other federal regulations and protections provided by the Marine Mammal Protection Act. In addition, they note, an international ban on commercial whaling remains in place. Uncontrolled whaling, which ended in 1966, brought the humpback and other large cetaceans to the edge of extinction. Good news I guess. [link to www.sciencemag.org] |

I cannot see the goings on out at sea, but the whales and dolphin theme has been of ultra importance as of late. Some say that if the whales die then there would be no memory to hold the WORLD together. |

Japan slaughters pregnant whales, Australia warns of legal action Japanese whalers have shipped home 333 dead whales - including about 200 pregnant cows - prompting Australia to declare anew it is considering legal action over the slaughter. The whalers, who claim their annual whale hunt is for "scientific research", admitted some of the harpooned minke whales had been expecting twins. Japan's Institute for Cetacean Research said the prevalence of pregnant whales indicated the health of the population. Japan defied a ruling by the international court to stop whaling, resuming its hunt over the summer months in the face of international condemnation. [link to www.smh.com.au] |
