Obviously, that is not a good permaculture tree. Good news is that pawpaws can tolerate this toxin. Chestnuts are good. Hazelnuts are great too. See what grows in the wild in your area and see what analog you can replace those with. |

Smaller trees easier to net (which is important as the squirrels here get 95% of the hazels I get from mine. Walnuts are easy too. The leaves and roots do release juglone which prevents many other plants from growing (especially tomatoes, peppers and potatoes) Also look into beech nuts and yellowhorn. If you are in a proxy and in US zone 6 or above, pecans and almonds are also a possibility....(as well as alpricots which give a fruit and a nut) Last Edited by Asymptote on 09/08/2016 09:33 PM Approaching the line "Be wary of mathematicians, particularly when they speak the truth." - Augustine I sign all my Karma Polymath supreme BTW.... Don't know anything about growing them in the colder regions but there are likely some variety of nuts that will grow there. The problem may be the short growing season. Pecans are harvested late in the fall like October but it's still warm here then. I think it takes a long growing season for nuts to form. . One of the most important aspects of conspiracy theories is being able to discern when there isn't one. Oh yeah, like you'd understand anyway. Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?. . .J. Handy |
