Did you cut off ties from your parents?

My mother is a borderline-narcissist. I never realized how sick and twisted she was until I had kids of my own. Then everything became clear... she had me to be her provide her with nonstop narcissistic supply. And of I didn't provide it, sh** got ugly fast

Abusive alcoholic father and manic depressive mother...not a fun childhood. I forgave them and moved on with my life. No more bitterness just peace. It's all about forgiveness.

No. With my dad, who has been kind of a dead beat, my rule of thumb for all interactions is "is it amusing and pleasant". I made that perfectly clear that I would not tolerate his BS. He knows he cannot get away with BS, so he doesn't even try to do stupid things.

In reality though, growing up, when it was just me and him, it was fairly amicable. I didn't feed into his neurosis, so he was generally a half decent person. Add in my siblings: older brother who wanted affection, rebellious sister, created volatile situations.

My mom? Get along great still. Even though my dad was a horrible dad, I still fear both my parents death, when their time comes.

My mom, her side of the family, doesn't live as long, 70's, so I fear to lose her first. My dad, the men generally live to 80's, and the women to 90's-100, so, he will be around a bit longer, but still.

Sometimes I think and fear, the death of my pet, the death of my siblings, the death of my parents, it is too much and brings me a large amount of sadness.

When I was a child, simply too many people died. Too many relatives, to many friends, I went to too many funerals growing up.

Yes. Life got much better. Should have done it years earlier.
