The cops weren't even there for him - they were serving a warrant on a different person.

He was a convicted felon carrying a weapon and drugs. (He had priors of trying to shoot a cop too!) When he saw the cops he freaked and started acting weird, which caught the cop's attention. It was reported that they saw his holster as well, which is clearly shown in the video.
