OP, it's not exactly terror you see in our eyes. It's sort of like looking up and seeing a big gorilla wearing odd clothing, often with underwear exposed and with wild, exaggerated hair styles such as two month old cornrows or wormy looking dreadlocks.

And we never know if you are going to be our friend we have known for years or have turned into a thug who would just as soon kills us as not. If a stranger, we never know if you will be articulate and intelligent or so dense as to not even be able to follow the most simple command.

So it's actually often dread. It's easier to just not bother with you at all. Almost never a pleasant encounter these days.

Gone are the days of actually having black friend on whom one could rely. I actually had them as a child and even a young adult. I wouldn't turn my back on one today.
