Have you noticed grocery prices completely bottomed out?! | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 72069981 United States 09/28/2016 09:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I own several grocery stores here in ohio, pa, and wv and prices are not going down. The only thing that went down was eggs because last year we had the bird flu epidemic and prices went way up. Here is something interesting that some states might not know. In pa the state sets the price of milk. So even if I wanted to run a sale on milk I can't. The price of milk in ohio and wv is 2 dollars cheaper than that in pa. Prices have remained steady this year except for meat. It continues to rise very fast. I think regulations have a lot to do with that. It seems like the government is trying to get the price of meat up so people are less apt to buy it. I don't know the reason for this but meat has gone up in price every year I owned the stores and recently they have has a sharp incline. I believe animal rights is trying to force the regulations on meat to drive the price up and have less cows used. Expect 40 dollar a pound t-bone soon and 15-20 dollar a pound beef. |

Egg prices wholesale are something like 60 cents a dozen.. they'll probably report a loss this coming quarter. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72069981 If you look at the current cattle sales, the prices are going down for the producers. So, who is the middle man making all of the money? Usually when the price of feed goes down, the price of cattle goes up. Corn, wheat and barley are very low. Hay is worth more than wheat. |

I wonder if people finally just stopped buying things and they had to lower their prices. Which I've been waiting for to happen for years. I was actually in abit of shock wandering around looking at all the cheaper prices. Maybe I switched timelines... Maybe it's just Walmart? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 72964477 United States 09/28/2016 09:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.foxnews.com] Consumers saving big as grocery prices hit record lows You WILL pay later If you’re one of those people who like to have their cake and eat it too, and pick up another one for later, then this is your year. If you prefer to buy your food, and don't eat out often, you’re paying 1.9 percent less to fill your stomach than you did a year ago, according to the U.S. Consumer Price Index. You’re saving even more if you’re avoiding fruits and veggies, which are the only vittles that have gone up in price. This doesn't mean you should be avoiding colorful produce. And here’s the best part: you’re saving a lot more if you’re comparison shopping at big discount stores like Wal-Mart and Aldi. The cost of meat, poultry, fish and eggs went down a whopping 6.5 percent in the last 12 months, according to the U.S. Consumer Price Index. And the cost of a dozen eggs, which was about $2.94 last year, is now going for less than half that: $1.46. But those savings are peanuts, according to a report in Bloomberg Markets, because food retailers are engaging in what can only be called a food fight. In North Bergen, N.J., that $1.46 carton of eggs is selling for $1.14 at Wal-Mart. And if you go the extra mile, the same carton costs just 99 cents at the nearby Aldi. It's not just egg and poultry prices dropping. The price of a pound of ground beef has dropped 50 cents in the last year, down from $4.16 to $3.66. But why fiddle with hamburger when you can get boneless beef ribs for $3.99 a pound (40 percent less than last year) at the Randalls in Austin, Texas? And why buy at Randalls when the H-E-B store down the block is selling those same boneless ribs for a buck less than that? And did you hear about that deal at Albertsons? But a USDA choice petite sirloin steak and you get a second one free. Food prices have fallen for nine straight months, according to Bloomberg Markets. It’s the longest streak since 1960 — except for 2009, when the financial crisis was winding down. |
SilverPatriot User ID: 72066607 United States 09/28/2016 09:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The severity of what we’re seeing is completely unprecedented,” said Scott Mushkin, an analyst at Wolfe Research. “We’ve never seen deflation this sharp.” Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73077438 Economic factors rarely hit home for me but it has this time. that $4 gallon of milk last year is a buck now! I am not used to ever seeing prices drop. Its like there is no direct but up. So this is interesting. I think its indicative of a big problem. anybody else notice? I'm in Indiana and I shop at Meijer or Walmart. Perhaps you are purchasing chicken, beef and pork sent to china for “processing” then returned to the United States for sale while comparable items raised and processed in the USA under controlled conditions are more expensive where quality and safety is assured. You might also consider the genetically modified Frankenfish such as salmon genetically engineered to mature faster thus sell cheaper. Alternatively, milk that is laden with hormones and antibiotics sure they are cheap but what is the real cost to your health. Prices are not cheaper for these items instead quality and safety are compromised and definitely an issue, all these issues are thanks to obama economics and the poor as always lose. |
