Ferenc Gyurcsany - left wing DK party

"the people didn't back the government"

never mind that approximatively 3.200.000 people voted NO and 50.000 voted YES out of a total of 7.500.000 people who can legally vote... :)

not so sure about that..... apparently the strongest argument for the left-wing "don't vote" propaganda was "the referendum has no legal consequences".

So now, even an invalid referendum should have no legal consequences, based on that logic.

P.S. The prime minister just gave a speech and he mentions they will table a change in the constitution.

Re: Hungary, migrants and the EU - latest news!
"A large group of migrants set off from central Belgrade on Tuesday morning, headed for the Hungarian border, news agency Reuters reported.

The few hundreds were holding handwritten banners and chanting demands for open borders. Many migrants in Belgrade, most of whom bed down in makeshift camps by the city’s central rail station, had mistakenly thought Hungary’s referendum last weekend on migrant quotas meant the border would be opened."

NOTES:
1. The Serbian-Hungarian border is NOT closed!!! ILLEGAL border crossings are limited by the fence Hungary built. Everyone can legally cross the border any time they want, if they own a passport and (if needed) visa

2. The migrants hadn't "mistakenly thought" the border would open (which hadn't been closed anyway... see point 1) - there are "humanitarian" groups who spread misinformation to them.

See here:
Thread: Hungary, migrants and the EU - latest news!

3. According to a source (yeah, I know! :)), the migrants are mostly young boys and men and seem to be acting like a military "convoy"

Here is the source:

Refugees stuck in Serbia begin marching towards Hungarian border

Most of the refugees appeared to be young men and boys who stood little chance of getting into Hungary or other EU nations.

.....

Hungary has refused to accept any of the people the EU is trying to relocate from Italy and Greece. On Sunday voters there overwhelmingly rejected any future mandatory quotas for accepting refugees. The referendum was rendered invalid, however, because of low turnout.

PM Orbán submits constitutional changes to Parliament

The proposed changes to the Hungarian Constitution include:

A clear statement on preventing Brussels from ordering the resettlement of migrants to Hungary under a resolution without the consent of the Hungarian parliament.

A ban on mandatory group resettlements.

A declaration that the resettlement of people without the right to free movement and stay in Hungary can only take place on the basis of individual requests assessed by the Hungarian authorities in procedures outlined in Hungarian laws enacted by parliament.

The bill also seeks to change the “national creed” of the constitution, stating “it is the state’s fundamental duty to protect Hungary’s constitutional identity rooted in its historical constitution”.

PM Orbán talks constitutional amendment, migrant crisis and 1956 in public radio interview

“We can be proud of the fact that it is only in Hungary that people have been asked about the issue of immigration; we did the right thing and the Hungarians acted bravely in this matter”, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told public radio in his regular Friday morning interview. “According to Hungary’s standpoint, there are issues, issues of identity, that nobody, including the EU’s legislation, can affect; these are the fundamental questions of our national existence and if they can be affected by others then we are not the masters of our fate, and this is something we cannot accept”, Viktor Orbán said.

Viktor Orban: Hungarian strongman challenges EU with anti-migration measures

Hungary's fiercely anti-migrant Prime Minister Viktor Orban shows little humility, and is opening a Pandora's box of problems for an already shaky European Union.

Viktor Orban has now put forward the harshest anti-migration measures in Europe
He is pressuring the EU to scrap its mandatory refugee quotas
But a former finance minister says Mr Orban's migrant policies are "not acceptable"

After he spent nearly $47 million on advertising, stoking security fears and promoting a "no" vote at a recent referendum on accepting a refugee quota handed out by the EU, only one-third of the country's 10 million people turned out to vote.

-----------

some liberal BS and sarcasm follows

------------

But Mr Orban is deadly serious. The populist right-winger, who admires US presidential candidate Donald Trump, has now put forward the harshest anti-migration measures in Europe.

He claimed the new rules would "protect" his "Christian nation".

The constitutional amendment includes a ban on "settling a foreign population" in Hungary, making it impossible to participate in the EU's quota system.

Mr Orban has called the mainly Muslim refugees and other migrants entering Europe a "poison" that his nation "won't swallow".

-----------

some more liberal BS and sarcasm follows, sometimes mixed with facts :)

This thing he said at the end of the first video was "left out" from the article. I guess they thought it's not important.

"International law says, that everyone has the right to a safe life. But international law doesn't say that it would be a fundamental human right to pick a country where you would like to live in and in order to get there you can just march through countries and violate borders"

It seems like the European Union is not really European.
Africa and the ME is not European or Europe.
It seems like those far from the European people and the European nation states, have morphed the Union that they first set up, into something not even recognizable.

It is worse than a counterfeit to what it was previously known as, it is a hijacked Union by those not even European or in Europe, those seemingly hostile unto the member states people.

Either a few sold the continent out for their own self gains unto a terrible, aggressive takeover clan or king, or they just merged with them and are no different than them.

It is a dangerous thing and it is not positive it is deadly and destructive.
It is like the past takeovers by bloody cruel regimes are back again and attempting to sweep through Europe again.

It is terrible.
I hope Hungary remains secure and their leader for their people and their nation.
They are madmen just like the ones before them, cruel madmen.
EU is out of control and its mind.

Ooh la la..... a joint anti-Hungary media operation has just started....

October 23rd was the 60th commemoration of the 1956 Hungarian anti-communist revolution, so both Time and The Guardian used the opportunity to release articles comparing the 1956 Hungarian refugees with today's forced migration.

They are basically saying: "shame on you, Hungary, back then the whole world welcomed Hungarians as refugees and now you are not welcoming refugees"

Comments have been already disabled, but they're a telling read..... it just shows the stupidity of the editor

Comparing Hungarian war refugees who were being murdered by Soviets and who fled to a neighbour country, Austria, patiently waiting to be "transfered" wherever they would be accepted with this hoard of migrants who think they can go wherever they want by violating several countries' borders, raping children, raping women aso. is more than disgusting.

Hungary is not a neighbour state to Syria, inor Afghanistan, nor Pakistan. These people are NOT refugees, they stopped being refugees as soon as they left the first safe country they got to!

This disgusting and highly offensive article should be deleted on the spot!

Re: Hungary, migrants and the EU - latest news!
The most informative comment to the idiotic article:

You are a refugee when you go into the first safe country. If you want to move from this first safe country to another one than you are an immigrant. Should not mix the two.

Hungarians obey the Geneva convention. During the war in Yugoslavia (1991) we gave shelter to refugees as a first safe country. Also we are prepared to give shelter to refugees in case we are the first safe country. If we are not the first safe country than the immigrant have to apply for the permission to settle in Hungary before entry. (You can not just walk into others house.) Obviously the Hungarians wish to decide who to give the permission and with this to decide who to want to share their own country with. In 1956 the first safe country was Austria for the escaping Hungarian freedom fighters. They went there and first applied for a refugee status. They usually went into refugee camps like in Traiskirchen (Traiskirchen Fluchtlingslager). Thereafter the Hungarian refugees could apply to immigrate to a third country. Many sent application to USA, Australia, New Zealand etc. Then this third countries made a decision and notified the Hungarian refugee whether the right to immigration granted or not. If the applicant was a doctor or physics or had some other good skills than He or She had more chance to get a permission. In 1956 Hungarian freedom fighters followed the lawful process and sometimes waited long time in camps until received the permission to move to another country. Often they did not get the permission and then had to apply to another country and wait in the camp. So in 1956 the Hungarians not just went to settle wherever they wanted, crossing borders as they wish, cheating the recipient country with lying about birth date, country of origin, fake ID documents etc. Todays Hungarian Government behaving according the international law and exactly the same way as the other countries of the world behaved in 1956. The article only trying to make a bad picture about the Hunagrian Governement and people. In the article about the quota and referendum also not correct. The recent referendum in Hungary was not about to take or not to take 1294 people as per the „quota”. This article is very much missleading. It is a shame.

Italy PM threatens EU budget veto over migrants

Rome (AFP) - Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on Tuesday threatened to veto the EU's budget over a lack of solidarity from European neighbours as it struggles with a huge influx of migrants.

"We give 20 billion (euros) to Europe so that we can get back 12 -- and if Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia want to preach at us about immigrants, allow Italy to say that the system is no longer working," Renzi told RAI 1 television.

Asked if he was ready to use Italy's veto to torpedo the EU's budget, he said: "Yes, absolutely."

Hungary will sue the European Commission and resist mandatory migrant resettlement quotas if Brussels does not take them off the agenda, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said.

If, then I think it's Hungary who knows best the effects of sovietization... at least within the EU!

PM Viktor Orbán: Europe’s freedom-loving peoples must save Brussels from Sovietization

“[O]ur geographical position every thirty years causes history to suddenly thrust [Hungarians] into the main current of debate on the future of Europe,” said Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Sunday, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight against the Soviet Union in 1956.

“In 1956, after the Soviets pulled out of Austria, we sought to push the Iron Curtain back beyond our eastern border. We were brave and attacked the Soviet tanks with mere Molotov cocktails. In 1989, it was we who had to open our border, to let Germans find their way to other Germans. We were courageous and did this, despite the fact that Soviet forces were stationed here. And now, in 2015–2016, it is we who have had to close our border to stop the flood of migration from the South.”

“Not once did we request the task – it was the work of history, and was brought on us by fate. All we have done is not run away and not backed down – we have simply done our duty.”

Austria sends soldiers to Hungary's border with Serbia following Turkish threats to ABANDON its deal to stem the flow of migrants into Europe

Vienna dispatched 60 soldiers to the frontier between the two countries as it emerged the European Union's agreement with Ankara was 'showing cracks'.
Based at Hodmezovasarhely near Szeged in south-east Hungary initially for six months, they will help build roads and erect containers.

It comes after Turkey's foreign minister renewed a threat to scrap the deal if Brussels does not grant Turks visa-free entry to the EU.

The visa waiver is part of a package of incentives the EU offered Turkey to stop migrants heading to Europe.

The main sticking point is an EU demand for Turkey to change the way it defines terrorism.

Hungary migrant ban narrowly fails in parliamentary vote

A plan proposed by the Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orbán, to ban the resettlement of migrants in the country has narrowly failed to pass in parliament, in a setback for the maverick leader that could weaken him in his fight against EU migration policies.

The proposed constitutional amendment won 131 votes in the 199-seat parliament, just short of the necessary two-thirds majority of 133.

The far-right Jobbik party sealed the bill’s rejection by boycotting the vote. But it held out a lifeline to Orbán by saying it would throw its support behind the ban if he scrapped a separate scheme allowing foreigners to buy residency rights.

Szijjarto: Hungary committed to protection of Christianity

Peter Szijjarto was in the Holy See for talks with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, his Vatican counterpart.

Szijjarto said he had told Gallagher that one of the key focal points of Hungary’s foreign policy is combatting the persecution of Christians.

The foreign minister noted that four out of five people who get killed for their religion in the world today are Christians. The lives of millions of Christians are under threat today by followers of extremist ideologies, Szijjarto said. Furthermore, there are clear agendas today to change or even do away with Europe’s identity, Szijjarto insisted.

Interview with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on the Kossuth Rádió programme “180 Minutes”

The most important question for our lives today is modern-day population movement: the issue of mass immigration. And this is not only the case this morning, but it will remain like this for many long years. As this is the most important question at the centre of life in Hungary, politics must also regard it as the most important issue – as the starting point. We have two options. Either we surrender to modern-day mass migration, and we are flooded: the security we have built will evaporate, the threat of terrorism will increase, and the economic results which we have fought so hard for may be threatened. The other option is to stop immigration: we win a majority in Europe for an anti-immigration policy, and we protect the interests of Hungary and the Hungarian people.
