Yes, of course it was idiotic by Orban to set the level to 50 %. Still, I believe that one can't neglect the massive resistance against Bryssel with 98 % NO-votes! |

I tried to animate some relatives to take part in voting process, since they have dual citizenship. To no avail. It's just amazing how passive people are about the whole thing. Migrants are causing problems in Serbia more and more often. Of course, no talk of what people want. And we too want them OUT! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 71944506 Iceland 10/02/2016 04:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Prime Minister Viktor Orban hailed as "outstanding" the result of Sunday's referendum, in which Hungarians overwhelmingly rejected European Union migrant quotas, and said the vote must be taken into account by EU decision makers. "Thirteen years after a large majority of Hungarians voted at a referendum to join the European Union, today Hungarians made their voices heard again in a European issue," Orban told a news conference. "We have achieved an outstanding result, because we have surpassed the outcome of the accession referendum." Orban said he would submit an amendment to Hungary's constitution to put the result of the plebiscite - which is invalid because voter turnout fell below the minimum 50 percent threshold - into law. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34763918 Come on Hungary, what's the matter with you? You can't fail us like this... Orban just said it doesn't matter, they will change the constitution :) If you ask me, the whole thing is pretty "delicate" to say the least The 44% voter turnout is actually BIG considering the number of people who usually bother to vote at all, BUT according to our constitution (changed in 2011 by the same government!), it's invalid, since a minimum of 50% voter turnout is needed! The "lower" than expected turnout was partly caused by the huge propaganda the left-wing parties started telling people to not vote, since the referendum would have no effect at all and is only used by Orban as a political too,. Actually, the total number of people who voted NO was around 3.200.000 In 2003, when we were asked if we want to join the EU, the total number of YES answers was about 3.000.000.... that vote was only valid because back then there was no minimum voter turnout margin (conveniantly enough :) ) |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73034467 THIS.... and also regions where they didn't bother to vote.... just build refugee camps in all those places Then, if the inhabitants start complaining, just tell them they had a chance to stop this, but they didn't bother |

With 98% say NO, this means 44% of all voters have rejected the EU, higher than Brexit 37.5% (52% of 72% turnout). yes, very good point... and even 200.000 more people than those who wanted to join the EU in the first place! |
