Quoting: Buttah Luvvah The very first time I saw the ocean was a trip to NSB back in the '80s...a very big deal for a midwesterner. I have fond memories of that place. Stay safe! Good thinking! I am now filling several plastic gallon containers with water and filling up all the space in the freezer! It will keep it cold longer, and you can drink it when it melts! Thats an awesome idea! I live high on a mountaintop, no where near this hurricane and I am going to do that right now :) "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Once the wind penetrates your home, it WILL keep going and will try to lift your roof off your home. I work disaster mitigation/ recovery for a living. If it were me, I'd board up my home, pack up my stuff and drive to at least central FL. I'd find a parking garage (above ground) and hold up there. Just remember that the N/E section of the Hurricane is the "dirty side"... That's where you'll get multiple Tornadoes and the strongest winds. Best way to survive is to not be there. |

If anything happens with the power (which is very likely during a big storm) the waterpumps don't work anymore. I've read numerous times where people said it was the one thing and the most important thing they forgot. If the pumps don't work anymore you won't have a flushing toilet. It can get very stinky and unhigienic when you're cramped up in a house full of children. There are a lot of easy diy temporary measures to construct your own portable loo with a plastic bucket, plastic bags, etc on the internet. Google it, just in case... |

You might put a change of clothes in it too in case you have to evacuate. Go to the bathroom and get bandaids, tweezers, cotton balls, other first aid supplies and put them together in some kind of water proof container so they will be handy. I'd come and get you out of there if I could, but I am over 1000 miles away. LOL Consider moving here after the operation, there are no hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, floods. After Wilma I was without power for 3 weeks on broward/dade borderline and had to drive 150 miles to vero beach to get gas and supplies. be locked down early, don't go anywhere once the bands start rolling in especially outside. while power is being knocked out more people die than afterwards because of electrocution from downed power lines that are still alive especially in flooded areas. |

Once they blow out so does the roof etc. Where i live facing the NorthAtlantic in SW England 100mph winds not uncommon and i can say that you do not want to be outside. Small bits of wood become lethal missiles. No way you could even hold on to a sheet of plywood. As for Cat 3 hurricane you could not stand up in it. Beer and wine and a large bucket of good luck.
